Here's what I did to remove the "wood" dash kit that came with my 87...

The offending trim:

Remove trim with putty knife:

This is the awful ancient adhesive left behind:

Grim!:

I tried many many approaches before finding this stuff.
I spray it on and let it sit for 4-5 minutes:

Then I scrape it off with the putty knife, leaving this:

Then I rinse it off and sand it with this:

I stop sanding when it feels smooth to the touch.
It won't look perfect but that hasn't seemed to matter:

I clean the sanded piece with this:

Then I apply a couple of coats of this:

Much better!:

Nice job........I hate glue on surfaces that can come back to haunt you. The black on tan looks so much better. Cheers!

I commend you for removing those stick-on "wood" panels. They don't belong in a corvette. Great job!

They certainly don't. Well worth the effort, including the painful discovery that a plastic "knife" can cut your hand almost as deeply as a metal one! :ugh

What a great write-up!

Sorry to hear about your hand. Amazing how plastic can be so dangerous. Thanks for the heads-up!
