Poor Quality of Polished Aluminum Wheels on C6

I don't know what changed but Wow, the ones on my C6 are pretty bad, I had them on my C5 and they looked good. Wish I would of got the painted ones and traded them in on some chrome, in short, wasted $1300 for these. You think GM would go for swap and refund??

GM needs to be pressured by dissatified C6 owners who have the "polished" wheels. There are enough of them to "start a party"! But will they???

Polished wheels were my choice head and shoulders above painted and wouldn't consider the aftermarket chrome. Agh. I guess I was lucky. My C6 was a December build and the polished wheels are perfect.

from probably the shortest-term C-6 owner (24 hours)

The polished wheels on most C-6s I have seen are sub-par. Polished, if the job is completed properly, is polished. It is not chrome, but it is hardly 'milky'. GM's attitude is neither new nor related to their money issues, except that it is the CAUSE of them. I learned (temporarily) with my C-4, when new. See, I was totally 'GM' for decades.

These days, it is just in vogue to blame health care or employees rather than take responsibility for understanding the biz and fixing the problems.

I've had similar dealer problems with Acura, so now I just buy BMW. They offered to (and did) buy back our '03 745Li, at full price, for an '05. The '03 wasn't really all that bad; just nuisance computer issues. BMW is not perfect, but understands that customer loyalty goes two ways.

I'd love (and can pay cash for) a new Z, but I don't need headaches from GM. If I weaken (and buy), it won't have GM polished wheels. Been there.......
:w

So Mike,

Did you ever own a late model Corvette with polished wheels? And are you "considering" a new C6? I kind of lost track of your point with all that Acura, BMW, employee healthcare business in your thread.

Egads, I am glad I did not order the polished wheels for my MY Coupe. I was waiting for the 10 spoke accessory rims from GM, but I have heard nothing about them. Hopefully, they will not have the QA/QC problem of the stock polished rims.

I repeat, mine look ok. THey clean easier than the ones on my WS6, too.

Of course, time will tell how they wear. Hoping for the best.

:)

My C6 was produced the week after memorial weekend. (scary, they all had hangovers) My wheels were suppose to be the polished. In each corner it looks as though they didnt polish it and missed. It upset me as well. The general surface isnt a high shine either as it should be. I feel they should do something to compensate in some way for this problem, that Im sure they know about and just turned there heads away from. They had so many restraints for such a long time on just about everything that it was slowing production down, plus they were loosing money on the options not being utilized. Most people dropped the option on restraint so that they could get there car produced. Thats money lost that they should have had. So I believe they knew the wheels had issues but sold them anyway.

I had a set of chromed rims installed at the dealer, maxie Price, in Loganville, GaA. They are absolutely what shiny rims should be. As I recall, polished rims were about a $1300 item. For $1748, the real chrome is a bargin. They send the GM rims out for plating and then just exchange your painted rims. It is well worth it to me. :D

Yes. A C-6 if you saw the bold title. I am not sad it is gone.

The other comments spoke to customer service by other companies. Sorry if it was not more polished. :w
