I'm going to be prepping my '82 to have it painted here soon, and I was looking through the POR15 catalog and found "POR-Strip" chemical stripper. Has anyone tried it..? I remember there being another brand that others reccomended but don't remember the name.

I striped my 77 with light acetone. It took off two coats of paint and the primer inbetween. It came off like butter, and didn't bother the original primer at all. I would recomend doing a very small test on your paint. After spending a week sanding. I used a small amount with a Q tip to get around the door handles, and was amazed that the paint just driped away. I used a house paint roller tray with a small amount of acetone. Then dip a paper towel in, then lay the wet towel flat on the paint, wait about five seconds and wipe the paint away. the original primer looked like the day it was sprayed. took about ten gallons.

Acetone? I wonder if that works on the finish on the '82.. I think they switched to a different finish.. not sure? I might test it in an inconspicuous spot.. acetone is probably a LOT cheaper than this other stuff!

It worked great for me. Be shure to use a mask to stop the fumes. And a well ventilated area.
