possible C6 Z06 and XLR body style information
Cadillac's 2004 XLR, which has sheet-molding plastic skin will be replaced after ust two model years with a new design rendered in steel. General Motors will continue to build the sheetmetal XLR alongside the next generation Chevrolet Corvette, which continues as an SMC bodied car int he same factory, thanks to a new metal fabricating procedure. The revoltionary procedure is designed to allow such factory flexibility a source says.

The New 2005 C6 Corvette also will get a face lift as early as the 2006 model year another source adds, to allow for some changes that GM product czar Bob Lutz wants made to the sports car. That means the 2005 could be a very rare machine.

Changes to the XLR for 2006 will be significant although the new style will still reflect Cadillac's Art and Science design philosophy.

Still Unknow is whether the Cadillac will offer a V series version of the XLR before the face lift or whether it will wait until the 2006 model year

Doesn't it seem a little strange to you that they do absolutely no exterior changes for the whole C5 run, but are planning (according to the article in MT) to make a change in the body of the C6 after just one year? I find it hard to believe. According to the original reason for the delay in the C6 was that Bob Lutz wanted his changes made before intorduction. According to the article, his changes will be one year later. I believe that if word gets out that there will be a major face lift to the XLR after two years and shift the body construction from SMC to steel, it will really hurt the initial sales for cadillac. Any opinions? Also if Corvette's C6 get a face lift in 06, the 05 edition will be very desirable for collectors. Only time will tell

Ferrari made a material switch on the original 308 if memory serves..

I think the "restyle" for the C6 is the high performance version.. I can't believe the C6 itself is going in for a restyle so quickly..(JMO)

I believe its the wide body version that will differiatiate (sp) the Z06 version or whatever its called..(550 hp supposedly means they'd need wider rubber?)

As far as Cadillac moving to new metal fabrication concept in plant..

Its possible..that the Cadillac buying public won't even know the difference..and the rumor is interesting b/c that means the XLR gains the positiion of Cadillacs experiemental model for the entire lineup.

The XLR needs a style revamp to compete with the Jaguar XK and MB sl500..both very beautiful and alluring cars..

The New MB SL500 really knocked this segment on its @ss..

Better for GM to react quickly than take another loss like the Allante..I think it would be too embarrassing for GM..

The money they are pouring into Cadillac is huge...

I think a quick restyle to beautify the XLR is a smart move..

I think the present iteration is too much arts and science and not enough sensual beauty..It wouldn't take much to make it right..but they need to do it and do it fast.
