Im looking to buy a c5 (any year) in the next year or two. My question is it possible to get a decent c5 for around 13 to 17 grand, that i won't have to put much more money into.

Since you're talking about the next year or two, I'd say that's a pretty realistic price range to shoot for. But I think it would be towards the higher end of the price range you listed if you want a "decent" car. Right now 97s and 98s with some mileage are breaking the $20k and under range. Within two years they'll just be getting cheaper.

As for not having to put money into one. Regardless of how well it was kept, you may have demons pop up since you would be talking about a car nearly 10 years old.

Keep your eyes on the prices (and the prize). It'll happen!

Why wait? A C4 would be much less money and you won't have to wait two years to afford one. They are one of the best buys in used sports cars. Keep it nice and trade up in a couple of years if you still want a C5.

Hi younggun -

Great advice in the previous two posts....

I think you are looking at the high end of the price range you mention for a C5 - but worth the wait IMO....

If you want into a vette for less, there are some great deals on 95-96 C4's...but a C5 will be more for the money IMO....

You have time on your side - but you should be able to get into a 98 or newer C5 for 19k if you shop accordingly -

The nice thing is that you are doing your "due diligence" by posting here ....

best regards -

I have looked a few c4s that i like but to me the best generation was the c5, if i find a c4 that i am really happy with i will buy it before a c5, but i don't want to just settle on a vette that im not really happy with.

Your 95-96 C-4's should be more reliable than an early c-5 AND all the posts above are correct.Good luck, take your time there's thousands out there for sale-thousands-

Is this True Or False?

The year following a generation change have more problems then the following years in that same generation?

Im asking this because someone recommended to me that instead of buying a 84 i should look for a 85 and up

The 1984 Corvette had a hybrid early fuel injection system called the "Crossfire". The '85 had a better system, "Tuned Port". The 1984 was also criticized for having too firm a ride. Springs were softened for 1985.

I don't think that there was much difference between the '97 and '98. The fuel pump whine in the '97 was improved after a while, but I have heard it in a '98.

Why not just wait 10 more years and then get a C5 for $8,000-$10,000...:L

Wait ten more years, :W

In ten years i want to be buying a new one!

Ask and learn from the experts!!!!!!!!

The only thing you can accomplish at this point is to educate yourself on what to look for. Forget the price for the time being because if you come from Bklyn with all of the uneven streets you would be better off with a Hummer!

When you are about to look for real then we will help you further, but at this point the wholesale market is very strong for vettes under 50,000 miles. Once you break the 50's it's worth nothing to a dealer unless it's special. I'm talking about C5's. There are no C4's coming through the auction, your 2 months late.

Check out another posting in this section by Bobby B. (bbaysdon@nc.rr.com ) that has a 1997 C5 for $15K.

Do you all think in Dec I will be able to get a vette for about 18k?
