Hello--I have a 81 corvette that I am starting to restore. This morning (following the useless chilton manual), I began taking off the right door panel (trim). The manual simply states "remove power door lock"...how is it connected? I have ordered the assembly manual, but it will be a few days before I get it. If anyone can send me the assembly manual page for the right door, would be greatly appreciated and hopefully one day I can return the favor. When it comes to the power door locks and power windows, are the main breaking areas the motors? Both power door locks do not work and the right power window will not go up or down..... new to the forum, but this is why I joined!

First thing is disconnect the battery if it isn't already. The power door locks can be disconnected right behind the switch in the door panels, just pull the connector off, you might have to gently pry it loose with a screwdriver. Before you go and buy new switches try cleaning the contacts, many times they get corroded and can be fixed rather than replaced, it might save you a few bucks. Same goes for the window switches, they can be removed by taking the top console panel off, they pull apart in the same way. At the very worst you might have bad wiring, but I would try cleaning the contacts first, then replace the switches, if that fails get someone to test your wiring, and don't forget to check the fuse panel for blown fuses.

I agree with Scott, clean the contacts. I had a problem with my passenger window that turned out to be the connector to the motor. I pulled the connector to the motor off, cleaned all the contacts and the thing works like a charm now. Clean all the connection points.

Good Luck

I've got kind of the same problem

My windows work ok but neither one of my power locks work. I have not jumped into the doors yet. Should I also try and clean all of the contacts with the lock system before anything else?

Yes. I had the same problem with door locks. You can clean the contacts in those also, but it is a little difficult. I had mine working for a while but then they stopped working again. I ended up ordering replacement switches from one of the catalog places.
