Hi,

Does anyone have a picture of the wiring harness for the power door locks? (Drive side and Passenger side) I would need to know where the wires go in the harness. They were all ripped out and i would like to connect them again and fix my power door locks. On the driver and passenger side, there are 5 wires and I don't have a clue where they should be in the harness. Please help.

Thanks in advance

If you do a search, you should find how they get put back together with aftermarket pigtails, there was a thread a year or two ago on it.I never did bother to take any pics of it though.by the way they all must be hooked up in order for the locks to work.

All I could find in the past threads were the aftermarket pigtails. I can't find an original picture of an original pigtail. That's probably what I would need since it's the original one still in the car.

I just looked thru my GM Shop Manual and Assembly Manual. I really don't see a good picture of the "wiring harness" it is rather generic (connectors etc.) the wiring diagram is detailed with color code.

I don't know if that would be of much help, without the book. It probably wouldn't scan the best and it would be hard to correspond copies to each other to complete the schematics and wiring diagrams.

Here is a example from the Shop Manual:

Thanks a lot Bud. I think that's exactly what I needed. The colors on that picture match the ones in my car. I'll try and connect then up tonight. I hope I don't run out of fuses ;)

Thanks

I worked on those doors for about last 2 nights now and they still don't work. I'm thinking that they might be the switches. All my wires were tested and they work fine. But when I connect them (as shown on the diagram), I either blow a fuse or nothing happens. Also, my actuators were tested and they work fine also.

Does anybody know where I can purchase door lock switches for a reasonable price? I called my local dealer today and they wanted $110 CAN + TAX EACH. wow....

Anyways, if you guys know where I can pick one up tonight, let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Here is an older Thread that discusses the power window switch, Nut (Spec 1981 owner) did a bit of research and found what worked for him ;) Also he mentions "after market" switches, I would assume he is talking about NAPA, PEPBOYS or something along those lines ;) Also if you have a pick and pull or a salvage yard close by, you will probably find the same switch was used in a lot of GM vehicles ;) and at P&P they would be a couple bucks each ;)

Owning a True Shark is a demostration in patience and tolerance... but when everything is said and done, there's nothing like a Shark moving down the street ;)

You're right Bud. In the end, it always worth it. Espicially if you don't have to pay big bucks for your accomplishments. :)

Does anyone know how many prongs are behind original Power Door Lock Switches of an 1981 Corvette? A lot of people are saying 3 at the Parts Store but mine say 5. Who's right?

You realize the power lock switches work in series. If one is out the other won't work. Both must be connected for them to work.

Jim

Yeah,

Both are connected when when we test the system out. We can make it lock but it won't unlock.

Have you tried swapping the switches. The important one is with the tan wire. If that one is not working it won't let the power through.

Jim

Yes, I tested the Tan wire and there is continuity. I also swapped the switches and no luck.:( My new swicthes should arrive next week.

I see some switches for sale here locally for a good price. They have 5 prongs (like my 81) but there is no "lock" word on the bottom. Also, some of them are written power WINDOW swicthes and not power LOCK. Are they all the same if they have 5 prongs and they look the identical?

I think the switches are the same. You'll know....your 5 prong plug will have to fit into the switch.

I just can't see how both of yours went at the same time. did you try a test light??If you moved the switch to the open position and hold it there you should have light on the open side and visaversa on the closed side. If you don't get light on the problem side its the switch.

If you have new ones on order open up one of the old ones. Its just a spring loaded contact in there. Actually you should be able to see in through the back if the contact is working or not.

NO!!! They look the same, but they are NOT the same. You need the ones that say 'lock' on them. I tried the other ones and they didn't work, I got the proper switch and everything was fine. Good luck.

Hey Guys,

I bought 2 GM aftermarket Power Windows swicthes with 5 prongs on them. I then connected them and they worked ! I then changed the casing of them to have my original "lock" word on they and they look original. My power door locks work fine now with the original look. The only thing that was changed on them were the guts. I paid about $30 CAN for the 2 switches. It sure beats the $120 per switch that GM wanted. :S That was going to cost me almost $250.

Anyways, thanks for all the feedback on my problem. You guys and girls sure helped me with this. Hats off to you!
