I finally talked my cousin into buying a C5 Corvette. He bought a 2000 Pewter convertible and after taking possession of it, found that the lumbar and bolster features are not working. This is on both seats. What should he look for? It has less than 50,000 miles on it and I wouldn't think they should be bad yet. If anybody reading this is in York County, PA, who is the best dealer in that area for C5 repairs?

Thanks for your help!

Hi there,
Your power lumbar is air powered by a pump underneath each seat.
Do you hear anything when you activate the switches???
You have 4 different power supplies so if you hear anything, that would help us.

Thanks for responding. I forwarded your questions to my cousin. Need to get him to join this group. I feel that you have a great support group for people like us. I put over 130,000 miles on my 1998 C5 and have over 23,000 on my 2004, 18,000 0f that by last March 2005 when I retired. These cars have been so dependable that I have had very few questions on any problems.

Paul,

Now that Stash brings it up, one of my lumbars is non-functional. When I hit the switch I can hear the same noise that the other two make but the bladder doesn't fill. Any tips on diagnosis / repair?

Sorry for piggybacking Stash.

Thanks,
-Eric

Eric,

No problem with me. The more input we get, the better chance we will have in figuring out what has to be done. Unfortunately, I am in NC and my cousin is in PA. That is why I want to get him on line and be able to respond to Paul.

I went out and checked mine yesterday after hearing about his problems. I set them right after I got the car and never worried about it.

hi,
I also have a 2000 vert with 19000 miles on it and i have a problem with the driver's power seat,I was going to wait till spring to trouble shoot but the same thing happens with mine there is no noise when i hit the switche's but when i use the memory option the seat works. I don't know were to start to look for the problem.:confused

Hi there,
If you hear the pump, but do NOT get any movement, it is most likely the air bladders. They come as a complete unit, with pump.
That makes it much more expensive.
Part number, 12455492 lists out at $342.74
I am sure there are internet suppliers that can sell it for less, but that is dealership list.

How difficult is the install? And are you saying that all three bladders and the pump are one unit or that each bladder has its own pump?

Thanks Paul! As usual, you rock dude!:_rock See you in June.

I had the same problem, dealer wanted around $600.00 to fix it. I pulled out the seat and removed the air pump from the little blue vinyl bag and found that there was a single power connector that had come unplugged. I plugged it in and everything is working now.

Pulling the seat out is fairly simple, only 4 bolts to undo. The air pump bag is closed with two staples, I unbent them to get the pump out. To put it back together I just rebent the staples after putting them through the same holes they had been in before.

Good luck

Thanks, Randomus! Hope it turns out to be that simple.

Had a similar problem on my 2000 with my drivers seat. The pump would run intermittently and kill the battery. I pulled the fuse the pump stopped running and the battery stays charged. I figured it was a leak in the seat and the expense to fix it was not worth it at this time.

Randomus/All-this is a help. I had not seen this section when I first posted in general discussion. I have been having problems with my bolsters and lumbar also. I'll check this out on my seat; fuses looked good and the passenger seat bolsters/lumbar work. I thought I heard a faint noise at frist try.
