Power steering pump leak

Pump leaking from the lower rearside "pressure outlet union". (The discharge hose is not leaking. The hose tube flare fitting is not leaking.)
73 Service Manual (Pages 9-98 to 9-101) states that for a leak in this specific location to " tighten fitting to 35 foot pounds. If leakage persist, replace both O ring seals." Question: Must pump be removed from vehicle to replace the lower rearside outlet union O ring seal? or, can I remove/unscrew the outlet, install O ring, replace outlet and refill pump reservoir with fluid?

Lots of posts and threads re power steering leaks/hose replacement, but could not find post re this issue! Thanks!--George
