power window problem

1975 Orange L-82 4 Sp.
My pass. side window got stuck it's getting power but I had to force it down a bit to get it to work making a poping noise when it works now it needs help and is making a poping noise the whole time at first it looked like it had gone up to far. also I found a piece in the door don't have a clue what it is will try to post well any way I'll try and post tomorrow

alright the part is the cover for the motor gear got window working half#%$ still needs help could that cover being off be some of my problem looks like there's movement of the motor also looks like someone was just in there and forgot to replace the cover regulator looks pretty new still looks like window is going to far up and getting stuck
 
Hi, I didn't have power windows. It would be logical that the motor cover would stop the armature from 'walking out too far' but would that affect how high the window goes up I don't know. I would put it back on and see what happens, at the least it should smooth out the movement of the window and maybe without the cover something is getting out of alignment which might cause it to stick. I know this is lame, but I would take the other door panel off and see why that works right? I guess there must be some mechanism to limit how much up & down travel the window has, maybe the adjustment is on the levers attached to the motor. Stupid question, what info does the shop manual have on this?? Sorry this is not much help, tt72
