I have finally figured out what I am going to paint my car. What kind of paint should I go with? Am I better off with PPG or DuPont. I can get about a 50% discount with the Dupont.

They are both very good paint manufacturers.Ive used PPG alot but used to use dupont a long time ago.The best advice I can give is to use compatible products all from the same paint system.Just because they come from the same manufacturer doesnt mean they come from the same system.use an epoxy primer, urethane surfacer and urethane topcoats and you cant go wrong.

Take the discount - they're both great paints!!

I am going to paint my car the orginal dark metallic blue. I might but pearl in the clear coat also. Any suggestions of what kind of pearl?

My friend gave me a quote of about $800 for all the materials for DuPont paint and he said that is with a good discount. Is that a good deal for what I am getting?

I plan on putting on 3 coats of primer, a sealer, 2 or 3 base coats, and then 4 clear coats. Is this a good combo? Should I put the pearl in the first clear coat? Just let me know

I dont suggest pearl at all.For one if your doing the car right it needs to be disassembled and will be hard to match when painting the car in peices.Second it is almost impossible to match or blend in the case of rework or an accident.I know this sounds unlikely but one slip of a screwdriver and your now making a blend thats not easy.

Ya. I have been warned by others about matching the pearl and I have decided not to take that route. Plus that will save me some money. Thanks for your advice.

I told my painter to get the blackest black PPG base coat clear coat he could get. It turned out great. They did a very nice job and I have been pretty happy with it since I got it back. It is not perfect, but it is a driver.

I want to paint the wheel wells and underside of my car, however, if I drive the car at all the paint is going to chip pretty bad. Is there any kind of coating or something I can put on it to stop it from chipping and keep it show material. Otherwise I am just going to undercoat it black. I think that painting it would be sweet but I still want to drive the car.

You can put chip guard on it.Its the rough textured stuff you see on late model cars on the rocker panels. It comes in spray can form.
