The General Motors Chevrolet Corvette Racing program announces a new partnership with the Michelin Group, effective immediately. The tire manufacturer will provide technical assistance and full tire support for the Corvette C5-R in the American Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race.

"We are excited about the developments we have in store for our Corvette C5-R in preparation for next season," said Harry Turner, GM's group manager for road racing. "On the heels of a third consecutive ALMS championship we do not plan to rest on our laurels. The addition of Michelin to our race effort is a big step in the right direction for next year and beyond. We're looking to improve all areas of the program to further the Corvette C5-R as the most successful race car in the 50-year history of the marque."

The new partnership will not affect Corvette's longtime relationship with the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for production car sales. The next generation Corvette model, set to go on sale in 2005, will continue a strong relationship with Goodyear.

Yea Ha!!!

I'm glad to see this. Michelin has demonstrated a better race tire than GoodYear for a couple of years now. I think GoodYear was holding back the C5R team the last part of 2003.

Yup,

They just about came right out and said that the tires were a large part of the reason they lost so much ground to the Ferarri's late in the season. The Goodyears had no problem most of the season but certain tracks they had no grip.

Yea, and then the dimwits at GM go and fire Andy Pilgrim, Kelly Collins, and Frank Freon. The problem was tires and aerodynamics, but the new boss decides he needs to roll some heads. Pilgrim and Collins played a very big part in Chevy winning the manufacturers trophy. So now we have to root for a bunch of european drivers. Give me a break!

Hey johnny, I used to live in Ziest. I flew F4's out of Soesterberg back in 1976-78. Really enjoyed living n Holland.
