Corvette Racing held off the Ferraris to take the top two spots in GTS qualifying for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Oliver Gavin drove the No. 4 Corvette C5R during qualifying, putting the car on the GTS pole.

Gavin’s second lap was his fastest, with a time of 1:59.024. The time put the Corvette, shared by Gavin, Kelly Collins and Andy Pilgrim, in 18th spot overall for the starting grid and set a new class record.

Ron Fellows was second in the GTS class, driving the No. 3 Corvette to a time of 1:59.458. Fellows will be joined in the race by Johnny O’Connell and Franck Freon.

The Ferrari 550 Maranellos of Veloqx Prodrive Racing were third and fourth in class. Anthony Davidson put the No. 80 Ferrari in third with a time of 2:00.354, while Tomas Enge was fourth with a 2:00.456 in the No. 88 Ferrari.

“It’s one of those tracks that when you get on with it and stop pushing hard, it rewards you,” said Gavin of his qualifying session. “The biggest opposition for us is going to be the Ferraris.”

Gavin felt that Pratt & Miller’s work to find more power for the C5R had a large part in his pole position. He has won twice at Sebring in the GTS class, but this is the first time he has taken a pole position.
