40th Anniversary price on 40th anni edition?

1993 40th Anniversary Corvette Topic

If you are referencing my reply to spanishvette, I was actually referring to the 40th anniversity edition ZR1.
They only made a total of 448 ZR1's in '93 and obviously not all the ZR1's were the anni editions and so the 40th anni. edition ZR1 is pretty rare.
nope not your post, the 40th Z's are rare! just talking about 'standard' corvettes.

I just bought a 93 coupe, white, red interior, 96k miles, everything works ( except cd player naturally ), for $7,000. it has a 2 inch crack in the rear drivers quarter and the front nose piece is slightly out of alignment. runs and drives great.

Can't say that I really agree with this statement. While it is apparent that the Ruby cars were not a limited production car (such as the '96 GS for example) they were a special offering....they represented a mark in Corvette history. There was an added expense to order RPO25, and as is the case with most cars that are an Anniversary Edition, Special Edition, Collector Edition, etc. they do draw a higher price.

Take a look at the '96 Collector Edition, and I think the same holds true. They were not a limited production run, but all things being equal a Collector Edition will bring more than a "typical" '96. Just the way it is.

Try not to forget how many 40th anniversary cars were built. They really aren't rare, I personally think their higher values are a bit of a false high

Firstly, I never really felt there was a "standard" vette .... but I guess its all relative!

The four-hundred odd number for the ZR Rubies is nearly identical to the production numbers for the 6-speed convertible Ruby ... less than 500! ... Throw in a factory optioned auxillary hardtop and the numbers really get low. Two thrills of differing nature for probably differing pricing.

After spending the last two-half years searching for my find, it is pretty obvious to me that value is in the eye of the buyer .... i.e, how much MORE is a low mileage car worth to him? ... how much of a price break would he expect to be given if the AC was not "cold".... thats saying that inopertive AC is even tolerable. What options (like FX3) and dealer packages are really important to the buyer?

Second to the intial thrill of finding the "right" car is the quest to find it. No body should "settle" for just a "standard" vette when the "right" car is out there waiting to be grabbed up!

.... and to think I almost settled for a polo green (with saddle interior)!!!! ... Like I said, its all relative!

As a new vette owner could you guys explain to me about this "optispark"? From all the reading on here I know it can't get wet, but why is it there and what does it do? Thanks.

The optispark unit is the spark distribution unit for the engine. On previous Vetts, the standard HEI (High entisity ignition) system was used. However, for the LT1 the opti was positioned on the front of the engine driven by the cam gear. The problem come by nature of its opperation and location in the engine compartment. First it uses an optical trigger to distribute spark to the firing cylinders. Secondly, when that optical trigger gets wet, it no longer functions as it should....rough idle, no start condition etc. The location is the other problem. The water pump is also on the front of the engine. Actually the opti spark is just behind the water pump (looking at the front of the engine) so naturally, any coolant leak with render the opti spark wet.

Barry,

Did you get a car yet?? I just bought a C4 in S. Jersey late this summer. Finding the right car is half the fun. Try the best you can to go for a low mile machine. Ltd edition means nothing if it is a higher mile car that is not your first pick. There are lower mile cars out there!! You just must be patient!! Everyone else has given you excellent advice that should be considered.

Good Luck!!

Hi Marlton

no, we haven't gotten the car yet. We decided to wait until the Spring for the new toy. One Vette purchase this year is enough for the budget and we just got the '65 in March. Maybe we can find the C4 this upcoming March and we can just make it an annual thing every year! LOL. hmmmm, i WOULD like one of every generation.
Oh well, nice dream but THAT'S not going to happen.

Are you in Marlton, NJ? We have friends there and both the wife and I grew up in S. Jersey although we are in De. now.
Wife is from Delran and I'm originally from Pemberton.

It all boils down to one thing, and ONLY one thing...

So you are looking to buy a vette, if you are a true corvette person at heart you will walk up to the car and buy if it is what you want....PERIOD !! Yes theres a LOT of things to consider when buying a car but your not just buying a "car" you are buying a Corvette, you are buying that car that you have dreamt about ! Just like ALL cars they will have more mechanical problems the older they are and having lower miles DOES NOT always mean you won't have those problems, what you will have is more cosmetic problems...if you are just looking to buy a cosmetically and mechanically perfect corvette with no miles to put away in a climate controlled bubble your not a corvette person, you're an investor go back to Barret Jackson and keep spending STUPID amounts of money !!! (I am using you and you're in a VERY broad sense and not directed to anyone in general LOL) My intentions are not to offend anyone on here, I'm sure that nearly everyone that took the time to find a corvette only website and forums is at least a corvette enthusiast at heart and they love to drive !!! My apologies for the somewhat negative post its just that I was born and raised around corvettes in my dads body shop specializing in corvettes, I have fiberglass in my veins...real fiberglass LOL...and with all the nuevo-vette owners that drive a corvette simply because they have the money and think that just driving a corvette gives them "prestige" as a corvette owner makes me ill....Don't forget WE are a special breed of car nuts....LOL when you pass another corvette on the road WAVE !!! We are family and hope to see you all at the gatherings and shows, showing off your pride and joy, get out there and DRIVE !!! SAVE THE WAVE !!! O.K. I'm done LOL again my apologies if I have offended anyone but if I did, than you are probably the kind of person that doesn't wave at the rest of us in traffic....:w

I bought my Ruby for 11,250 out the door. The dealer came down from 15,000 and the "but we have a special deal today only" line. The car was clean and had a new starter put in. All fluids were changed and having driven a few C-4s I felt like this one was the best.

I almost didnt' even look at it because the pictures on the web were so bad. It looked dirty, beat up, driven hard and just plain sad. I had been looking at an '89 up the street from it but the digital dash was dim and the 59,000 original miles were pretty hard miles. It drove like a tank.

When I saw the Ruby and how clean it really was I fell head over heals for it and after talking to the dealer for a while got the price I wanted. Here's a hint...don't tell the dealer that all of his other cars (in this case Volkswagens) are second to the 'vette on the lot...it seems to get them upset.

I've had the car for a couple of months and just had the Opti-Spark replaced. I feel like a real Corvette owner now :)

I am quite sure that my ruby is worthless to everyone but me... that's why I will never sell it.... I know the mileage is high, but I believe in driving a car, not keeping it as a museum piece... I am quite happy with it and will probably get some engine work done sometime after it hits 200k... I do plan to get one more vette and thats a 50th anniversary, maybe I could find it in the same color or close... of course I plan to do this when I am 50... lol
