1966,and a 1962 thats almost complete
So I have said it 100 times I have been working on cars forever.

Well I have been having troubles removing my door strikers on my 62.The bolts were rotted fast I decided I was going to drill off the heads of the screws and then remove them with a stud remover.

I been soaking them in WD-40 (which until recently thought was a penertrating oil) Any ways no mater what I worked on and it was rusty I would always pre soak something with wd-40 way before I got to work (Barry listen in because I know you have to remove your seats for carlilse) any ways these bolts/screws would not come out. Because they were so tight to the body I just could not tourch them I had to actually install a set of vice grips and tourch the vice grips to cherry the screws/bolts (conductive heat) and all that happened was the vise grip twisted off about 3/8 of an inch of the screw/bolt

NOTHING budged these srews/bolts .I had given up and decided to drill them and tap them and I had plans for doing this some time in the near future.

Eather here or on the NCRS board I have heard mention of a penertrating oil called PB blaster .The only problem was i could never find it .Today I was at my local auto parts store and up on the counter was a can of PB.This is a place I am in at least once a week for the past couple of years and I never seen it there.

So I ran home at lunch and gave it a squirt, wrapped it with the hammer to let the oil get in. Gave it another squirt when I got home from work. before coming from the garage for the night I figured I would give it another squirt for the night.Well I decided I would try and wiggle the screw a tad with a set of water pump pleirs to let the oil get in and what do you know the screw was loose and I almost backed it out with my fingers. This stuff works like magic.Boy could I have used this on my trailing arms on the 66.

I was so impressed with this product I had to share it with you guys.I am going to bring all of my wd-40 to work for other to use. And will never be with out this product again. If you have any rusted bolts find this product and use it.

it really worked like magic,

I cant tell you how many hours I have invested in removing these screws/bolts.If some one had said the would sell me a magic oil to remove the screws I would have paid at least 100.00 for it

Larry, Now you tell me. :) I should have hosed down my entire car in this stuff before I disassembled it. :) Would have saved allot of time. I'll be sure to pick up a can.

I honestly wish I knew before.

Had some one said this stuff is magic and you have to have it I would have searched high and low for it.Now I know and wont be with out it.

I do have to say that I got it on my hands and NO scrubbing or soap has been able to remove the smell of it from my hands

I've heard of it before but never used it. i'll have to pick up a can to keep around the garage.

Here in the rust belt we have been using it for years. It is the best I have ever tried.

That stuff is great I won't be without it. Man, I thought everybody knew about PB. We use this stuff out on the ship ... some of the rusted, corroded, bolts and nuts are simply impossible to get loose without a shot of PB.

You want to see a real test of the penetrating power ... take two sytrofoam coffee cups and spray a squirt of WD in one and PB in the other ... see what happens. Caution have the PB cup in a old coffee can or something.

:w

Also excellent material. I threw my Blaster away and use this.

I think most people rate penetrating oil in this order (from worst to best)

1. WD40
2. Liquid Wrench
3. PB Blaster
4. Kroil

Murrays and Autozone carry PB blaster and it was worked very well for me. The trick is to spay early and often. If I know I'm going to work on a a component, I'll spray before I leave for work and then when I return. When it's time to take things apart, bolts come out and nuts come off no prob.

PB Blaster ... Rocks.. Good product..has saved be time and Agg...:beer

I agree great stuff, but try to have some ventilation, gives me a headache in about .3 seconds.

I used so much PB during disassembly, my wife thought that was my permanant body "smell". The smell eventually goes away.

I've used PB Blaster and Kroil for many years, on many projects - couldn't work without them! WD-40, although handy for many household things, is a water-displacer, not a penetrant. :)

Thats one of the things I miss since retireing from GM was access to Kroil, I have not been able to find it locally; but I keep a can of PB Blaster on hand.
another trick for rusted nuts if you can get heat on them is candle wax; heat it up then let the wax flow on the threads.

Just recently a sales rep was in and he did the same test except with water in the cups and we compared his house brand product with the "Fluid Film" product I have been using. His product went right to the bottom and ate out the cup. I guess that is a good thing.

Some penetrants are highly flamable though, so you have to be careful.

WD is usless as a penetrant, might as well use water.
