Earlier today, an update was issued to Chevrolet dealers that included production updates and constraints related to the 2021 Corvette
Earlier today, Chevrolet dealers were notified of the latest production and constraint updates for all Chevrolet models including the 2021 Corvette.Last week, we reported that the Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant would be shut down this week due to supplier issues. We received a statement of confirmation by Chevrolet but details on the exact supplier issues were not given.
This week, there's been much talk about the semiconductor shortage that is affecting not only GM but all automotive manufacturers across the globe.
We now know that 2021 Corvette production came to a halt this week because of aluminum structural parts and transmission shortage.
Details of exactly which structural parts and "transmission" were in short supply, but below are the details from page 2 of the GM document entitled "Chevrolet Consensus - February 2021":
Production Update:
- Bowling Green down 2/1 - 2/5 due to parts shortage (aluminum structural parts & transmission)
- Media statement and Concierge team prepared
- Plant to resume normal operation on Monday, February 8th
- Museum delivery capacity increased to 55 per week
Constraint Highlights:
- VST Illuminated Sill Plate LPO no longer available & will be removed from all orders at Event 1100
- 5DF Black Trident Accessory Wheel - Not taking orders, on 0% constraint since early January
Based upon the second bullet point under the Production Update headline, it seems that some kind of media statement regarding the parts shortage may be made public after production resumes on Monday, February 5th.
We'll have more details as they become available!
