Has anyone used a progressive automotive frame? These are sold by corvette central. I have a '58 which is good looking, but rotten to the core. I would like to make a reliable daily driver of her. (modern suspension, crate motor, auto trans) I am also wondering whether it is worth the extra cost to use the independent rear vette suspension or use the solid 5-link rear.

Thanks,

58 in so-cal

C1 to C4 Suspension Conversion

I don't have any experience with Progressive Automotive but we did a conversion to modern suspension using Car Creations. Here is a link to their web site: http://www.carcreationsinc.com/

They have done quite a few of these and can give you more information if you want to check it out further.

If you can locate a solid used frame Jim Meyer Racing hase some quality suspension upgrades available that would give you the benefit of using more modern components.

Try Mary Jo for a frame. She's in your area.

I went to see Progressive Automotive at their shop to see about their frame and conversion parts. They had a complete frame there ready for shipping. It was very well put together and very similar to an original. I say similar because it had C4 front suspension mounted and a triangulated 4 bar for the solid rear, so it had to be somewhat different. I liked what I saw and bought the parts I needed to make the conversion to my '61. Bob, the owner was good to deal with.

I was just looking at the Car Creations photo gallery. Very impressive.

Phil,
Welcome to the Corvette Action Center. It's good to hear praise from someone that has actually seen the Progressive frame first hand. I wonder if they have a web site.

Tom

Tom, the site for Progressive Automotive is none other than
www.progressiveautomotive.com/ . It has a lot of good information, as does Car Creations. I talked to several people on the net, before going to their shop, including Rich, when he was in the process of putting his '62 together. They had all used and recommended Paul Newman of Car Creations. I wanted to do a lot of the work myself, however and Car Creations is not into that end of things, but I discovered Progressive Automotive and found that they will provide the parts, or the complete chasis. It is a full day's drive for me to get to Progressive Automotive, but I wanted to see their product first hand, rather than just a picture on the internet. I was pleased with what I saw when I got there.

Phil
