proper location for shims on the front a arms

Hello again folks .I am from the C1/C2 section of this forum.I am building a custom corvette that uses the suspention componets from a C4.

The picture below shows how my a arms are installed and how the shims are located.Can you look at yours and tell me if the fat one goes in the front or the rear? As you can see by my photo I have NO clearance.But if the fat shim was in the back It would make it a little more comfortable
I should add this is looking from the drivers side into the engine bay To the left is the front of the car and to the right is the rear

This is my pass side, light was better (but not great)

So they go on the "engine" side of the alum. suspension member.

Yup the larger one is in the front, but I have more shims behind the round ones.

Thanks guys .I know I may have to have a shim installed when it gets aligned,But I am going to call the header company today and see it I can press a dimple into the header with out effecting the coating.
 
The shims go between the button spacers and the A-arm attaching bracket. The shims are flat and the spacers are flat one side and button-shaped on the other where they sit against the control arm shaft.

But your upper control arm bolts are in backwards! The nuts should be on the control arm side. The factory bolts are a carrige bolt type with a rectangular-shaped base at the bolt head that fits into the hole in the attaching bracket. I think this was done simply to keep the bolt from turning when the nuts are loosened to place shims during an alignment.

If you leave the bolts in with the nuts facing inside, don't use Nyloc nuts near the header pipe. The heat from the pipe could melt the nylon keeper so use a lock washer or locknut. I replaced a couple of the factory bolts on my 87 when I installed R-D Racing's Camber Brace and the bolts I got were a metric bolt and the head was marked 10.9. Guess that's the equivalent of a Grade 10 bolt??
 
Thanks for the heads up on the bolts I am in the mock up stages with this car.I do plan on turning the bolts around and eventually installing grade 8 stainless steel with the nylon nuts
