Proper scanner and adaptors

I do not see the model number listed for the tool, I'm reasonably sure you can use the same MSC described above in the Mastertech, but I'm not very familiar with the scanner, I do know the Bosch website listed many of the same cartridges for the Mastertech.
There are some nice accessories listed with the tool and the Mastertech has a much better display including the ability to graph wave forms which cannot be done with a Tech 1, as Hib inidcated the Tech 1 is limited by a two line display. Easier to make a decision knowing model number and price.

Toptechx6,
I have requested the actual model number. It "looks" like the 3100 but who knows for sure. Are you saying you recognize one of the listed items as a mass storage cartridge? I assumed that the multi-function tool was the handheld itself but was confused by the 12 mg pro card part.

The 12mg pro card listed is some sort of software for the tool, but I have no idea what. Even the Mass Storage Cartridge PN 30000003 could be programmed with different software that is why I emphasized the importance of checking the software versions installed before purchase. Ask me how I know. :L I once bought a MSC on Ebay thinking I got a super deal only to discover it was loaded with Izuzu software!
The 3100 Mastertech is a good scanner and should accept Tech 1 cartridges, it may also take other software cards, but I would not buy this one for use on your car until you check to make sure it includes what you need. For one thing the price will likely higher than a Tech 1 assuming it actually is the 3100 model.
I posted the diagnostic pages from the FSM to help you diagnose your current issue, while it may take a little more work with the DVOM it can certainly be done without a Tech 1. My suggestion would be to do the diagnosis, fix the quad driver code then PATIENTLY watch Ebay for a Tech 1 or Tech 1-A. You indicate "your service manual" did not have the diagnostic procedure, that tells me it is not the Helms publication you need. Spend your money on the correct factory service manual for your car first, then worry about a Tech -1.
A couple of links here to some currently on Ebay, be sure to buy the red two book set, not the white preliminary book, good luck.:thumb

All Mastertechs are MTS3100. There is no other PN.

Generally program cards contain 1) software necessary to the testers basic function and, in the case of this specific car, application software for late model Nissan vehicles. You will likely need a program card for GM if you want to work on cars other than Nissan.

If there's no MSC than you have no software for your 93.

The Mastertech will accept all cartridges which work in a TECH 1. With the program car in place, you get 16-lines of data vs 2.

The CAN adapter allows you to connect to 2005-up Corvettes.

You need a cable with a GM 12-pin adapter on it to connect.

What's the price on this unit?

Good morning. Toptechx6, I some feel real stupid only because I get it a hurry. I had made a cursary look for DTC 26 and was looking in the wrong place. The books are the factory reds. I am just getting used to these great reference manuals. I zoomed in on your screen print and read the page number then flipped through mine and.....there it was. Thanks for helping.

Hib,
From your post I now know the unit is a 3100. I have seen the unit at a buddy's shop and it is identical. The auction ends at 5 PM today and is currently at only $179.50 with six bidders. I am sure it is gonna catch fire nearing 5:00. I need to find a reasonble bid considering the apparent fact that there is no GM MSC. My problem is that I don't know what this bid should be. If you could help me with ball park bid I am going to put it in knowing I will still have to find the GM MSC. Thanks to everyone.

That statement be true for current production, but I see at least one other model for sale frequently, such as the one listed here.

I have no idea what the differences are between models, both appear to accept the same cartridges as the Tech-1 scanners.

I would say you got a great price on the scanner, with the correct software you should be capable of accessing almost anything thanks to the CAN and VIM modules. Best idea would be to save an e-bay search for Tech 1 and Mastertech cartridges, the MSC shows up farily often. Typical price is between $150 and $200, as mentioned previously make sure the seller knows what software versions are loaded and compare to my earlier post.
There is also a larger capacity MSC available, I'm not sure of the part number, price on that one runs between 2 and 3 hundred, again be sure you verify software loaded.
There may also be software available on CD that will give you the ability to flash update MSC cartridges using the Mastertech tool, perhaps the manual included will have some information on the subject. Tech 1 tools lost that capability when the dealership CAMs computer was discontinued.
Good luck with the scanner, hope it works well, don't forget to give us an update.:thumb

Wow...I agree. Great price on the MT!

If you need support info, Bosch Diagnostics is 800 321 4889. I'm not sure how they handle support of a unit bought used in eBay but they should be able to answer questions about what accessories you need to connect to your car.

If you PM me, I'll provide the name and extension of my contact there.

Word from Bosch is the Bosch Mastertech MTS3100 and the Mac Tools MTS2100 are the same device. The only difference is the Mac Tools MTS2100 was a private label version.

Just a note on my Mastertech tool. When it got here the Program Cartridge in the top reads Mass Storage Cartridge. The only items I now need is the GM OBD1 Dlc adaptor. I have one borrowed today to start my tests. My question...Do the cables and adaptors for the MTS 3100 the same as the tech 1. I am afraid the adaptor to dlc cable connection could be different. I am also needing the test tool tips. The cables seem to be here but no tips. (alligater, insulation piercing, needle) Thanks

Thanks Hib, that is good to know. I always thought the MTS 2100 was an older scanner.:thumb

As mentioned in my first post, once you power up the tool make sure the software versions loaded in your MSC are correct. As far as I know the adapters are the same between Tech 1 and Mastertech, I'll research the part number and post here later.:thumb

After looking at the Bosch website I think the adapter you need is GM 12-Pin DLC Adapter
Part Number: 02001384 and it does seem to be for Mastertech and Tech 1A only, the Tech 1 cable comes equipped with the 12 pin ALDL connector.
