currently own an 87 coupe, wife has now decided she would like one, so we have looked at an 85, and an 88.
I know the 88 year was the 35th anniv. ( this car is not an anniv. edition), and the 85 was nothing special.
still need to go and pull the RPO's on both vehicles, but they both have auto's, the 88 is a vert, 85 is a clear top.
seller is asking 10k on the 88, and 8k on the 85

any particular pro's and or Con's on either particular year?

BTW she did just call me to tell me she found a "cute one", a 96 with a stripe down the center, said she thought it was an "RS"
( yes a 96 GS ) asking 20k maybe i can get her to take my 87, and i'll take the GS

I happen to have owned all 3 types of Corvettes you mention! We had an '85 coupe, automatic, that I was never really fond of, but we kept it for 6-1/2 years...never gave us any trouble and had 100K when we sold it. I also owned an '88 convertible, this one with a 4+3 transmission, and I currently own a Grand Sport convertible. There's really no comparing the GS with the '85 and '88, but I did love the '88!!

As Len said, there were a lot of improvements between '85 and '88...and a convertible is a whole lot more fun!!:s But...if you have a choice between the '85, '88 and the GS, go for the Grand Sport!!!

Go for the "cute one" :L. 96 GS and LT4 are my faviorates, and i think you would love a nice GS. They are powerfull, good lookin, and quite rare. But if ya get it, your wife might want it, but if you could get the GS and she get your 87, then i agree with 6 Shooter. BTW, where did you find such good deals? the cheapest GS i ever saw was 25k and was left outside without a cover, had "pebble" paint chips, and had alot of milage on it (i figure he bought it, and used it as a everyday car and had to travel on dirt roads to get to work or somthing)

the GS is in Ft Myers, guy was init asking 30k but has been sitting on it for a year now, on a side note, she saw it driving down the road last night( may now be sold), said it looked real good. The good part is she has agreed that if we got it, she would take the 87 , BUT ( aint that always the case ) we would have to wait on the start of the building the house an extra coupla months.

The '85 has many odd parts under the hood. The ECM is for that year only and is slow.

I'd lean to the '88, all else equal, after the GS.

I'd say GS all the way, only 1000 made and that fabulous LT4 motor under the hood! Second choice would be the 88' but I'm kind of biased.

And don't forget they went with bigger tires on the 88's, but not all 88's have the bigger tires.
