ok i took off my AIR system on my 74 L48 (and block all the AIR holes and hoses) and put on a new Ebrock performer manifold. now my vette wont hold an idle below 1400rpms, and the choke plate keeps on opening before the car is warm and the car just dies. do i have to adjust my idle screw now that i took off the AIR system? and the performer maniolds theromstat, for the choke , is set high than the stock one, where can i get thermostat to choke connecting rod that fits? another question what should my timing be?

please any help would be nice, i cant figure this Q-jet out.

Your timing is listed on the "Emissions" sticker on your firewall.

For the choke, you need to convert to an electric choke -- about $35 (and worth every penny!). Try your local auto parts store, or you can get an Edelbrock electric choke conversion kit from Summit Racing.

1) Is the carb base gasket square and tight?

2) Did you account for all the vacuum hoses on the carb? I missed one and had a heck of a time.

If all you did was pull the AIR system off, there should be only one small hose from the front of the carb to the AIR diverter valve. It's easy to miss.

As long as you didn't fool with settings, the electric choke should be the only loose end.

Timing should not change.

If the AIR system is complete, would you consider selling it?

i already had that hole on the carb pluged. i think my timing is off one or two degree's. i looked today and i must have ripped the carb gasket by accident, has a nice rip in the side, will change it tomorrow. i dont have an ellectric choke, some sort of metal thermostat thing, and i measured the distance to the base of the carb, the thermo was an 1" closer to the carb with the new manifold, wouldnt that throw off my choke settings?

sorry smurf anything that comes off the vette goes in its own little box and up on a shelf, if i ever sell the car i want all the orginal parts.

The electric choke replaces the metal thermo thing. They work very well! Go get yourself one before the cold weather hits...

can i get an electric choke at any old parts store like Advanced or Pep boys?

Call around. Somebody should have one. I got mine at OReillys.
