I rebuilt my first Q jet the other night, got a kit from nappa & considering the parts that I took off that did'nt need to be all went well till I got to the power piston assy does it go on top or under the bowl cover gasket? my breakdown shows gasket on top but the hole in the gasket was not big enough. I ended up trimming the gasket to make it fit. carb sure needed the cleanup, secondary's were sticking most of the time, now I now why.
I picked up a edelbroc performer intake (non egr) to bolt the carb to & swapped out the choke cover with a electric one i had here, is that all i gotta do hook it up to 12v?

The gasket slides over the power pistion and around the primary metering rods.Find a 12 v source thats on only when the ignition is on you should be ok.

ty black 81..I think I got it right just did'nt think i should've had to trim the gasket but it woudl'nt fit right either way,I'll find out when I get everything back together, car is in storage & its a real pain not being able to work on it here at home..gotta take parts off bring em home to work on them then back to the car & hope it works.

If you have a performer 2101 and you're in tropical/warm climes you may want to consider this: 2101 has exhaust crossover passages to warm carb ... and many other aluminum intakes have same type Xover ... NOT good for performance. BEFORE you install intake gaskets cut two "shims" from thin STEEL sheetmetal (aluminum WILL eventually burn through) ... silicone a steel shim directly to the exhaust Xover port on each HEAD ... this will block the HOT exhaust from coursing through the intake ... then silicone the intake gaskets to the heads and install the intake. Your electric choke will work just fine if it's adjusted correctly. If you're in a warm climate your Qjet really shouldn't need a choke anyway ... just pat the pedal a coupla times before cranking.

Boy do I wish I was in a tropical clime...ty for the info Jack but here N of Toronto I'm not sure it'll ever warm up, I think I better stick with the choke. I looked at the idle needles under a manifiying glass & they both seem to have a bulge at the tip. is that normal or should they come to a sharp point?

Unless you do alotta winter driving, the Xover shim trick would probably work good for you too. Most intakes above the 2101 type do not have any Xover passages at all ... they're cast fully blocked. Keep the new choke. The needles I've seen come to a sharp point ... maybe yours have been blunted by turning in too far ... but maybe they're correct ... hopefully others will chime in. No offense, but a hint of your approx latitude (i.e. province) in your profile's location might be of help in future tech Q&A.

Ty Jack, I think I better change the needles to be on the safe side these have no scoring but the bulge don't look right. I changed my location I just like to stay anonymous till I've been a member of a site for awile, but I have'nt seen any crazy people here...;)

I too had to trim that same gasket. If I got the gasket in the hole where it goes I could never get the piston assy to go in. It seems sealed no, but like you mentioned we will see. I agree I'm not sure its ever going to warm up here in Canada. I'm south of TO, a smaller city called Sarnia.
