I have a C5 and am contemplating replacing part (rear part) of the exhaust system. Looking for slightly throatier sound and a little freer flowing system. in order to remove and install does the rear portion come out and go in without major work or being cut or can they be fed out and in easily?

Also, I am considering replacing with GM sock Z06 cat back along with the intake filter. Will it achieve the rsults I am loking for? And are there any other mods i would have to do with it like a chip to make it work right? What kind of increase in Perf could I expect. Please help!

Welcome to the forum. I've spent quite a bit of time over the last few months looking at the various options. You'll quickly find, if you do a search, that there are many opinions on exhaust. I myself am trying to decide between Borla and Magnaflow. Generally, my observation has been that Borla and Corsa are the 2 main players not only here, but any car show/club you go to.
I worry about interior resonance. I seem to notice more comments about that on this site and with respect to Borla. Corsa specifically advertises their system as not having the interior resonance. That basically means that at certain rpm (usually 1500-1800) a buzzing sets up inside the car.
As to install, if you'll go to any of the web sites, they all have download instructions. Install is easy, and if you'll search this forum, you'll find lots of comments about installs taking an hour-2 hours by owners.
I've narrowed my search to a Borla and magnaflow, and going with an x-pipe on both. Seems an x-pipe will reduce possible interior resonance, from all I read.

I can only speak for B&B Bullet 2-Tips formerly on my blown ZO6, they were VERY loud and had a LOT of resonance between 1950-2250 rpm. The exhaust was stock from the cat backs forward.

I knew they were going to be LOUD, they do advertise they are the loudest aftermarket system, but they claim NO resonance at all which was not TRUE on my car.

After talking to B&B tech support about the resonance, they suggested an 'X-pipe'; I got a Bassani; while it did quiet the exhaust somewhat the resonance was still there and very annoying.

So I removed the B&B's and re-installed the factory Ti cat-backs, leaving the x-pipe in place.

Now the car is much quieter than stock with no resonance whatsoever; although that was true with the totally stock exhaust system as well... =;-]

I strongly suggest anyone thinking of changing the cat backs find a Corvette club where the members with custom exhausts will give you a ride so you can hear for yourself.

The stock Z06 Ti cat back has less restriction than the steel base Corvette unit and will give you a more aggressive tone; with an x-pipe it will be very quiet indeed and less restrictive than the base Corvette system...

The stock Z06 system is about the only system that does not produce resonance at 1500-1700 rpm in coupes. Convertibles and FRCs do not suffer from as much resonance due to the different configuration of the rear of the car. The large open area of the coupe acts as a huge sounding board for the mufflers just underneath the rear hatch.

Corsa Touring system with x pipe. NO resonance and they are quite as a kitten until WOT. Then HELLO.

I love my Corsa's

Good Luck however you go.

corsa tourings...no resonance at all.:_rock

if you can get the back of the car high enough you can pull the old units out whole. i was not comfortable jacking my rearend that high up, so i cut the pipes with a chain type pipe cutter (free loaner from autozone). i knew that i would be trashing the old ones anyway. after-market mufflers are two piece units so you don't have to worry about jacking the car really high to get them in.

install can be done in just a few hours and it's totally worth it. both for looks and sound. :beer

anyone have the link to the web site with the MP3s of the different exhaust systems?
