hello there,
how many miles would you expect the original water pump to last if all maintenance was done on time and nothing unusual happend to the car(as far as i know).the reason i ask is because all of a sudden i have either a squelling pig under the hood,my belt may be bad, still room left on the tensioner,or my water pump is going.i have no leaks, the sound is pretty loud,i have a hard time believing the belt is making all that noise, but the sound does go almost away after it warms up or driven a couple of miles.i quess i will clean the belt when i get home with some belt dressing and see what happens.maybe some mysterious fluid got on there.i dont have any leaks at all on the car,one of my pet-pevs.thanks for any advise you may have, later,Todd.

HI there,
Sometimes waterpumps go bad. I have seen a few myself, however, I would be more inclined towards an idler pulley, or the tensioner itself.
Do NOT put belt dressing on a serpentine belt, as this only causes faster degradation of the belt. This type of spray is ONLY for V belts.
You can use a little silicone spray, to confirm if it is the belt.

thanks for the reply,
i read your reply just in time,as i was heading to the car with belt dressing and a bar of soap.so i just wiped the belt with a rag and i put a little grease in the tensioner and pulley,no more noise,so next couple of weeks i guess i will buy a belt(s)a/c also and the tensioner and pulley,i wonder what shape the a/c tensioner and pulley are in,cant really see it with my little mirror.37,000 miles on the car,im hoping to go to 50k before water pump, maybe i can use my extended warrenty, thanks a lot,Todd.
