Hey guys, i am going to just run the guy tomarrow and find out, but i want to know how bad i will be beat.. I have a 1991 Corvette with an automatic and 2.59 gears, its pretty stock except for a Ed wright Fastchip, TB bypass, K&N filter with cut lid, 160 thermostat, Air foil and a pair of Dynomax SS mufflers. It also has a full tune up, so it cant be running much better. He has a stock 2001 lightning with a filter kit in it. How badly do you think i will be beat? Lastly, what would i probably run in the quater mile?

There a guy coming at track with it. Not sure if this is a 2001. This supercharged truck is really fast. I never really paid attention to the details, but it beats a lot of cars. I would not be surprised if the truck is in front by 3-5 car length. I hope I'm wrong and the driver will make the difference.

Keep us posted on the result.

It'll probably be bad enough for you to go out and start getting some big mods done! :L

Let us know what he runs and then go from there.

Get a really Big wing and some stickers, that should do it.:rotfl

Just kidding

You will probably get your butt beat unless he is a real poor driver.

But you have lees weight then he does,

Probably too late, but don't race him. Why put the stress on your car. If your had a ZR1 or a Z06 you MIGHT have a chance. His only weakness may be traction.

You should get him from a dig depending on how you launch your car. If it is a stop light to stop light race you might actually win. Launch your car at about 12-1300, that is the sweet spot for my car where I get minimal tire spin and the car really hooks. He should be sitting there spinning due to the weight ratio and what not. Good luck if he says anything just ask him how he feels about buying a truck he can't drive in the snow.

I had a 2000 Ford Lightning!! With overdriver's and 34# injector's,K&N Ram Air!! "IT WERNT NO BIG DEAL" The stock 91 L98 auto Cp. I had at the time Would Blow it away!! Didn't mater who was driven What!! The Lightning will Put up a Good Smoke Screen tho!! TOO much Motor not Enough in the Azz!!:upthumbs junk!!

thats lame! vettes are made to be run hard! and BTW stock lightnings run mid to high 13's so he DOES have a chance at winning.

I ran head to head with a Lightning at my local strip. His license plate had the Corvettes specialty plate C5 logo with the text "EATER". We just happened to line up side by side in time trials, so we would not have a staggered start. It was heads-up racing. My track is at 2600' and a density altitude of 6000' is about typical, so the times may seem slow.

I cannot remember the exact times, but I ran about 12.6 and he ran about 14.4. It was no contest at all. A normal C5 runs about 13.8 +/- at my track. I think that he would beat some older stock C4's, but I would bet on the 'Vette most of the time. Against a strong C4 or any C5, stock to stock, forget it. Game Over.

Well Alrighty then. Good show. And Mad-Mic didn't think Corvettes stood a chance .

Mad-Mic knows a LOT about C4's and drag racing. The Lightning would beat my friend's '84 without too much problem. The lightning would not beat an LT4, and I don't think it would beat most LT1's. But Mad-Mic would know about this better than I would.

I think what Mic was saying is that L98corvette DOES have a chance at winning. I could be wrong and please correct me if I am, but that was the "he" Mic was refering to.

:w

lightnings here in vegas run about the same. low 14s. supercharged or not, its still a truck. it still has to punch a great big hole in the air.

I was curious so I looked into the www.dragtime.com site. You will see the result for a 91 L98 stock 4L60 and 2.59. The guy made 14.4 @ 93.5.

There is also time for the lightning. It looks like they run high 12 low 13 @ 105-106. The old ones runs 14+, but the newer 2000+ they are way below that.

Too bad the tracks are closed for the winter. I would have asked the guy to race against my C5. But even that, I would not bet a ton of $$$. My C5 runs 13.3 on street tires and it spins as on ice. I will wait next summer. I never raced my C4 on drag strip. Just on road race.

Oh well, I’m a Vette guy and do not really like the Vette being slower…. But for sure, the scenario would be different on a road race track. Drag tests only 1 aspect of the machine. Most of the fun is in turning and braking and XLR8.

I’m would like to see the result of yesterday’s race.

747,

Your avatar looks awesome! :D

There are too many variables to consider in a heads up race against a Lightning, such as traction, driver style, engine condition, etc. But, as a matter of fact, I faced a similar scenerio last year. We had both, our 95 LT1 and our 86 L98 at the track for some head to head grudge matches. The Lightning happened to line up across from the LT1 & smoked it. The LT1 smoked the L98 all night long by 3-4 car lengths.

If we're talking stock L98. No contest, Lightning wins!
