Question: Speeding Tickets

I've been stopped twice in the last year. Once with the Vette, but that wasn't for speeding. A quick turn to a freeway on ramp was hidden behind some trees and I had to hit the brakes hard to make the turn when I saw it. The officer must have been sitting on the bridge getting bored. He just stopped me to make sure I wasn't driving impaired, after seeing my manuever to make the on ramp. When I noticed him following me I was driving about 7 over the posted, but he didn't say anything about my speed. He liked my car. :)

Last spring I was stopped on I40 in AZ for 81 in a 65 driving a rental Grand Am. The officer was very nice and let me go with a warning.

I didn't even know mail trucks could go that fast.:L
yeah believe it. the new ones are ford (yuck) explorer chassis with the 6 cylinder. they also have posi! not that i would do nasty burnouts in a government owned vehicle.

Had the '93 for about 2.5 years now..., and no tickets. Curious that cause I suppose its not like I shouldn't've gotten one or two-----or three. Not this year, but I managed to get 2 last year in my 'lil droptop Z24 Cav (and always haulin back to work from an assignment).

I think cops know it's kinda ridiculous to have a high performance car like a Vette creeping at 35mph. I don't know about y'all's, but mine just doesn't like it. If the road is smooth, I'm never going 20 - 35mph. I can do it, but it just feels wrong. I'm safe and I don't race the pocket-rockets thru city streets. I'm not disrespectful--I will take my foot off the go-pedal, but I never tap my brakes. So far, so good (knock wood.)

Never in the Vette (knock on wood)

in the late 80s when I was commuting to College over in Louisiana I got pounded about 3 or 4 times by the cops.. always doing 65 70 or 80 in a 55 zone it seemed..
Think these were all in a 78 monte carlo with the 200lb doors! haha

Only ticket that I actually got was in the Vette' and that was for not wearing a seatbelt.

I had one cop last year pull me over for that one too, no seatbelt. Then of course, I explained to the kid that I only have a lap belt and I showed him I was wearing it. :)

He then sat there and talked about the car with me (which I love 'cause my car's an attention whore ;) ), showed him "no trunk", played "Can YOU find the wipers?" and of course fired her up... he even burnt his pant legs on my side exhausts, but he had a big smile as he left... life is good.

Now hopefully I haven't jinxed myself :(

Two for slow speeding in Pa

One on Pa turnpike 75mph in new 62 Imperial (Chrysler for U youngins)
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Ticket for trying outrun cops, (2 in 1 car) Middle of day. Hose broke on flathead Mercury V8. Water all over. Missing like crazy. Loud duals.
"yes sir I was trying to run away under these conditions"

Stopped on a rural road for ???? Dont think he ever did tell me why. Radio on low if on at all. Never heard siren. Just got a warning. 4 what???? Whatever.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
While a very young driver another very young one pulled out in front of me.
POW. I hit em. He said ""U ran that stop sign". Looking to where I had just came, I say ""what stop sign"". Oh, he says. ""someone knocked it down yesterday"". Dah I had never driven the area before.
Right front damage. My uncles car. He had a heck of a time with the insurance company. Not sure which one but believe they are associated with Sears.

That's all of the story. Almost.

Never in the Vette..... (knockon wood)

Close once. I was heading east on IL SR14 and was dragging my buddy in his '66 327/350HP vert. We were doig about 95 in a 55 when along came Mr Officer the other direction. He never even glanced at us!

But my little red Trans Am has cost me a bundle! Almost lost my license... had 4 moving violations in 2003, and had 2 the previous two years. All were legit... speeding or rolling a stop sign.. whatever. Fortunately, they never got me doing a top speed run south on I294!! Hehee I was doing ~155 with no one on the road at 5AM on a Sunday. I figured at that speed, I'd be going too fast for them to read my plate, and I'd be off at the next exit if I saw a copper... so I just kept my foot in it til I shat myself! Then backed her down. I think it took me an hour or so to stop shaking.

Now that I'm getting older (ha!) and Wiser (ha!), I'm a little more conservative. No tickets this year!!!

Could they ticket you for going to slow?

I have seen signs '''minimum''' speed. Offhand can't say just where. Never heard of one being ticketed. I suppose they would hurry U along. Try anyway.

My ''slow speeding'' statement meant maybe 10 mile over limit.

OK, let me put some of the cop myths to bed. Being one, I'll tell you how I operate - but I'm not speaking for every law enforcement officer. When I do traffic enforcement, I could care less what color your car is. I know what cushion I'm going to give to speeders and at what speed I'm going to write a ticket. My radar has a hold button, which means it doesn't emit radar until I take it off. When I do, your radar detector will go off but it's too late, I've got ya. I don't sit out in the middle of nowhere trying to get the lone speeder at 3:00 am, I pick locations that are populated and speeding has been a factor in accidents in that area or there is high pedestrian traffic and you should know better. And yes, you can get a ticket for going too slow (in TX), it's known as impeding traffic.

No, I was driving my 5TH Ave. at 25 MPH on a 40 MPH Highway. The officer pulled me over and told me I drive like an old man! He stated you can get ticketed for driving so slow. Now I drive 35 MPH or so. I never really drove fast, even when I was younger. I drive the vette the same way, unless of course I'm at the track. This is where I do my speeding.

I was lost once in an unfamiliar subdivision of the next town over. I had just gotten gas and thought that I could take a short cut. This car pulls up behind me and starts tailing me. So I start speeding up and he speeds up. I start turning without using the signals and try to lose him but he keeps up.

Then the unmarked cruiser turned his lights on. They came up and asked me if I was lost. :L I said yes and they said to follow them back to the main road. I wasn't wearing my seatbelt, I was speeding, turning without signaling and they didn't say anything about that. ;)
