I have a '98 w/ 6spd. The recall was just done a year ago. The steering column does not lock with key out. Yesterday the DIC started displaying Pull Key-Wait 10 sec. - Service Column Lock. It will move about 2 ft. and cut off. Checked codes and it says No Codes. I found the informatiom about the CLB on this forum and I ordered a CLB from corvettes of houston and I have the instructions for installation. My question is, since the recall has been done, do I do any thing different from the installation instructions for the CLB? Thanks in advance.

I think: Once you get the service column lock, you have to flat bed the car to the dealer. The CLB will not fix it now. the engine cuts becasue max speed is limited to about 1 mph. When I got the service clolkumn lock, I had to have my BCM replaced. This might have been because previous owner tried installing various add-ons like CLB and 1-4 skip shift bypass.

Good luck

If the column has locked up, one cannot install the CLB until it is unlocked. Did the dealer do both recalls - there were two? I had one done on my 02 M6 and it locked up within several months after the fix - fortunately it was in my garage. Chevy paid for the tow and second recall fix. After that, I installed the CLB from Corvettes of Houston and have not had a problem. There have been many posts on the CAC from members who did the CLB and eliminated the problem. There was an article in one of the Corvette mags several years ago about the column lock issue. The jist of the article was that if you have a C5, you have had the column lock on the car, or you will experience it sooner or later. They recommended installing the CLB. It isn't hard, just take your time. I don't think the CAGS bypass has anything to do with the column lock as I put one on mine as soon as I got the car.

Yes both recalls have been done. The steering column is not locked up. I can turn it wihout the key in. It just keeps giving me the messages and will shut off. I did check the battery and fuses.

my 2000 (automatic) kept giving me the steering lock message. After the batt was disconnected (for another unrelated repair) it never went on again. Also see if you can check your DIC codes, it may show other issues.

OP said no codes.

I used my HP Tuners to bump the fuel cutoff to 256 (I think) mph.

That and my CLB have taken my worries away completely.

Thanks all for your help. My question is, since chevrolet has done both recalls, is there anything different I need to do before I install the CLB when it arrives? Do I need to undo anything that chevrolet did before I install the CLB? Thanks.

I received a CLB from corvettes of houston today. I removed the GM K-harness that chevy dealer had installed and then installed the CLB. This took about 30 minutes. This fixed my problems. Thanks to all who post the DIY threads. This saved me lots of money I understand. :beer
