ive searched the forums but i cant get a straight answer. will a 255 sized tire work safely on a 9.5 rim? goodyear and firestone web sites think so. what about you guys?

In a straight one-word answer ... Yes.

A P255/50VR-16 tire was standard equipment on the '87 Corvette, even with the 9.5-inch rim that came with the Z-51 package.

:D yes it will but it my not look good but it will run ok

Eventually you may want to move up to a 275 or 285 which is the standard size tire for the 9.5" wheel, but you will get less "road wander" w/ the narrower tire.

I checked the 'specs' for GoodYear tires on the TireRack.com web site and they show that the recommended rim width for the 255/45/17 is 8-9.5" - so no problem.

I assume that you bought 2 9.5" wheels and want to use your existing tires on them. If so, they should do just fine.

thanks. i was hoping it would be alright. now its off to ebay.

good plrx787, another opinion. what do you think is wrong with 255s on a 9.5?
