Can I put on four 285/40/17 tires on the stock Z51 sawblade rims for a 96?

I have all fours with 275/40/17 now, but I just saw an 88 with all fours on 285/40/17 and it got me wondering since I need new tires...

Anyone running with 285s on all fours? Is 10mm wider any better?

Thanks!

Yes you can. I have 285x40x17s on my wife's 93 with the factory 17x9.5 wheels.

I have a friend who has 17x11 on all four corners for autocross racing.

Thanks... Now maybe I will try and find 4 cheap 285 tires instead of 275!

Just to make sure... there will be no problems with a 285 (wider tire)...

I took some measurements at the front tire to the wheel housing/ inner fender. I have about 1/4 to 3/8 inch clearence. This may not be the same for all tires though, I have Kumhos ASX on hers and she only drives around town. The 285 measures about 11 inches wide the 275 about 10.5.

Thanks! Now all I have to do is find good tires, cheap! Working on a college student budget is tough!
