Help! Radiator Cooling System Issue

Hi all ....

I'm redoing my interior at the moment then I am into the panel shop. I have not driven the vette since I imported it, but start it 1 - 3 times a week.

Today I started it and let it idle for 10 mins - running sweet.

Then I turn off the car I hear a gurgling sound and some coolant loss through the overflow filler bottle.

There was a hiss from the radiator cap which I will replace tommorrow BUT the gurgling almost boiling has me miffed ????

The engine did not overheat and was running well - your thoughts please????;help

Possible bad head gasket!!Are you sure it didn't get hot??If there is a Air Lock in the cooling system, the gage will Lie to you!!

Thanks for the advice. I looked up the head gasket thread and will look at the usual symptoms, murky water, steam discharge, etc.

Oh well these things do happen

Darren.. you might want to check the T-Stat.. maybe it is stuck closed. Where the Fans coming on at the right temp or even at all ?

Check to make sure there are not leaks in any of the hoses.

can't think of any other things to check right now..

I 'topped up'the radiator this morning and checked the hoses etc.

I started it and let is run for a good 15 mins ..... nothing at all ..... I think your theory about the thermostat sound like the 'culprit' .....

I'll flush the system and change the thermostat this week ....

You may find the bad cap was the culprit. If you had blow by around the cap you may also have blow by into the reservoir

I 'topped up'the radiator this morning and checked the hoses etc.

Perhaps it was just a bit low and you fixed it.

I like 'reading' the color of and deposits on spark plugs for many tell tales, like rust, indicating coolant in the cylinders, etc. That's the one part of the old Motor manual I still refer to, from time to time.

So far so good .... I'm doing all the servicing next including flush etc .... I just want to finish the interior, then new seals and paint ....

Sometimes I wish I had a team like on Discovery's AMERICAN HOTROD .... you know do EVERYTHING at the same time!
