Radiator hose blows on freeway

Taking my daughter and grandson home yesterday and blew the upper hose on my 96 CE, after $54 in taxi fees to go to 4 stores got the hose. It blew out towards the front of the car all over my 3 filter K&N ram air. but the main question is, how can I get rid of the antifreeze smell. I want to hose it down but am wary of the optispark, or can I just try and do it carefully.
Thermostat hit the 260 mark so any possible problems ahead ?
any thoughts ??

Blown radiator hose

Last summer my '95 had the 'flow control valve' blow at high rpm. Dumped everything very quickly - all over the firewall and A/C condenser housing. In traffic, stopped, looked both ways then ran a red light to get into a lot and shut off. Walked 3/4 mile to get a piece of pipe, hose clamps, a pair of pliers and a 24 pack of 1/2 liter water bottles. Wife was hotter than the engine. Analog temp gauge pegged but no damage.
Smelled bad but was afraid to rinse it off. Wiped off everything I could reach with a damp rag. Smell went away in a few days.

Blast that thing off with the water hose!!! Make sure the engine is STONE COLD,and try not to spray the Opti Directly!!
You'll be good to go!!

No, I don't think you'll have any problems! It would be different if you would have drove it 5 miles maybe.It's possible that it could have blown a head gasket,But you would already of found that out if that were the case!! I've seen engines get 300-325 deg and not hurt them! Just watch your temp closely for a while to make sure it didn't make a head gasket start seeping,but I think you will be alright!

PS. You probly should change your oil and filter sometime soon though! Some times getting them a little hot can knock a little sludge loose inside if there is any!!:cool

Yeah Junk, that's what I thought. I mean the Opti will get wet when driving in the rain right? Just curious.

Yeah, they can get wet while driving.I heard of them going bad after washing,but I have never had it happen.The only 1 I've ever replaced was caused by the Loose Nut behind the steering wheel,Me! And the Opti was the least of my problems, took a couple trees almost dead center!!I've probly Pressure Washed and Steam Cleaned 50-60 of them the last five years,and never had one go bad!!I repaired several that had been diagnosed as a bad Opti by someone else but it always ended up being bad coil,spark plug wires,fusible link,chapped wire,bad connections or some other crap!!
