Bought used radiator support awhile back. Went to put in today looked easy enough.Well thats what I thougt anyway.Had hell of a time with shroud.Had to take support bolts out each side. Then take fan off wrestle shroud backto work radiator out.Noticed leak at seam.PLus support looks little different holes pretty much match up but my radiator is bigger than new support.Were there different sizes in 77.And did I take out radiator the right way.Will I be able to use this support.Any help would be Apreciated.Thanks Bill
There are 2 different type radiator cushions that the radiator sits on, one for A/C cars and one for non A/C cars. The A/C cushions have a wider cutout to accomodate a wider radiator check that out first. If that is your problem these cushions can be purchased from any of the online restoration houses and are very simple to change. Is your radiator the correct unit for your car? Get the correct specs for yours and than measure the one you have now. Perhaps somewhere along the line someone replaced the original with the incorrect unit. Also, what year car was the support out of? 77-82's are different than some of the older year cars, you may have the wrong unit for your car. Hope this helps.
Hello C3 support bottom just alittle too short from original radiator.All the other holes match up.I should be able to use.Looked up DEwitts radiators and seems my radiator is for manual tranny I have automatic. Have right support wrong radiator I think.Dewitts shows my radiator with tranny lines on side of radiator.The one I took out has tranny lines that hook up in front .Plus the manual tranny looks exactly like the old one.Bigger job than I thought.Now can do belts and hoses.Thanks for responding.Bill 77
Any one who might be interested found radiator for my car . Dewitts wanted $495.Looked up local radiator shop $183 so I guess you know were Im going.But I just thought I would share with members Rogers radiator Woburn Mass.Question for forum my car is 77 but has stingray emblems on side did they just use what was left over from 76 or could someone like used dealer just to get it on lot.Thanks again C3. From what I've read and seen, the early 77 did not have any front fender emblems and the later 77 had a crossed flag emblem on each side. Looks like someone liked the look of the stingray emblem better.
