Hello,

I never got good reception with my radio set up since I owned my car. Yesterday I replaced the power antenna after it stopped working, with a replacement style unit. I also mounted the ground and reinforcement plate up top that it never had along with a new ground strap.

The radio gets maybe two stations that come in real strong but the rest seem kind of weak with the volume all the way up. Maybe a little better than before but still not that great. I noticed the wire that screws into the power antenna is kindo of rusted. Any where else I need to look? Is the radio itself the problem? Time for a rebuild?

If your radio has not been serviced in several years, then it's time for a rebuild. You may also need to replace the coax lead from the antenna.

You could always throw a coil of wire on the antenna. I know you have seen those antennas that are straight, and then come down and have a 3 or so inch coiled section. The coiled section acts as more length to the antenna. I know that there is one or two stations around here that doesn't come in very good no matter what vehicle i drive.

mine in my 65 was doing the same thing...got the service literature off ebay for $20, did some troubleshooting and it works fine now...even so, don't expect it to be near today's technology...the service literature is nice to have for future reference even if you don't need it now...i'm willing to make copies and send it anywhere in the United States for $15...email rfrederick@woh.rr.com
