Last Tuesday the vette was between 1/4 and reserve on the gas guage, DIC not saying reserve or low fuel and it "ran out of gas". The tow truck guy put in a couple gallons and it started up. I went to fill it up and it would only take 14 gallons. I went to local Chevy dealer, he ordered $1,100 worth of parts (covered under GMPP), mentioned fuel senders, modules, switching, etc. Friday night the vette was between 1/2 and 1/4, 177 miles range on the DIC and it "ran out of gas." I put 1 gallon in and it started, I went to a station, it would only hold 11 gallons. Any ideas, suggestions?

Yes, this is a common problem.

1. Don't turn off the engine when the fuel gauge goes to empty -- you obviously still have "gas." The engine will keep running as long as you don't turn the key to the left.

2. Keep driving, because there is still "gas" in the tank.

3. Fuel up at the next "gas" station, without going out of your way. You'll be fine.

4. Go to the dealer, and have the fuel sending units replaced.

5. If the problem persists, see nos. 1-4 above.

Hope this helps.

When I say it "ran out of gas" I mean it sputtered and stopped running and I could not restart it.

hey there,
i have never heard of this, something is not write, almost sounds like the pump or filter,if it happens again, let sit for 10 minutes(key off)then try to start without adding any gas and see if it starts, also pull any codes, this will eliminate guessing.its possible that the pump that transfers the fuel to keep the tanks balanced is malfunctioning intermittantly, just a guess thou, see if theres codes.good luck,Todd.
