Rapid Fires

Picked up a set of Rapid Fires. Anyone have any gap spacing they like with these plugs???

I think I have mine gapped at 40 or 45 thousandths. I am really not sure at the moment. I know what it was when I did them. I think the stock plug gap is 35 thousandths. I know a few people on the forum that have their plug gap around 50 thousandths.

How did you re gap the plugs Craig? What is the proper procedure to re gap a spark plug?

Actually when they come from the auto part store they should be gapped right. If they are not you should go back and request new plugs with the proper gap for your specific car. However you should never attempt to gap a plug with a gap tool. You could inadvertently damage the plug. There fore when I checked my plugs they were all around the 40 thousandths range, so I just said screw it and they ended up in the car.

Mine were gapped at .050. After reading a few others, I brought it down a hair to .045, double checked with a tool of so gently. We will see how well they fire. Of course the old ones were in tight and I broke a plug....

What kind of coil do you have? Did you get them in the car yet? I think my tune up made a big difference. I can feel the car, it is more responsive. I also enjoy better gas mileage. I was told by c4c5 that I should use synthetic oil on the threads instead of that packet stuff they want to sell you for .99 cents. I haven't had a problem getting plugs out since.

Stock coil..looking to upgrade. Never thought of using the synthetic oil. They are in the car, havent fired it up yet since I am waiting on my radatior hoses from cool flex. Should be in by next week, Ill let you know how well it runs.

The first time I changed plugs in the L98 they where calibrated at somewhere around .040-.045" and I had to do double work (change them twice), I had to re-calibrate at .035 and everyting went to normal!


It was a set of Beru Silverstone's (I really like those plugs)

If I where you I should calibrate'em at .035

The AC Delco Rapidfires come pre-gapped at .045 out of the box. This is the gap they should stay at (or real close), NOT .035.

Thanks Brad. Thats what I thought, bigger burn. I set them at .047 like several others have and No Prob...great plugs

The factory label in the engine and the owner book in my 91 L98 said the spark plugs should be gaped at .035" I wanted a little more (.045") in the Silverstones but it did not work for my vette with those plugs.

If .045" works well with the Rapidfires in the L98 engine with the stock ignition system those are great news for me. I´ve been reading very good reports about the Rapidfires!

Just wanted to share some personal experience that added some scars to my knuckles! :L
