Do you know what car # and year this one is...

What is the history...and where is it today?>

Yes I saw Callaways personal files on this feat . 193 mph with the stock body Mike Zoner was there for this and I had a good talk with him about it while discussing my 100+ project.

Reuben, That is partially correct - it does share a similar intake manifold w/ the 100+ cars - for some reason, ratings were virtually unchanged :confused ;)

Pete - I posted this, as I really hope you get your 100+ option done :m

In the meantime, I wonder if this is the same car - before the lightweight seats and front spoiler were installed - So few cars got the "Kammtail" spoiler and few got the manifold as well - here is another car, at speed :upthumbs

...and from the rare and seldom seen files ;)

Here is a rather interesting *early* car :upthumbs

Note the finish of the package...

I know car # 87-001 @ the NCM wears the same pieces as any other production car did, this one is clearly different :eek

From the never seen before files...

Just call me crazie, but i would say the intercooler to tb horns are bigger on the black and white picture then the pollished one. Or is it the angle of the picture?
Besides that i don't see a clear connection between the intercooler horns and the tb on the black and white picture as the pollished one has.

You do have some very cool picture's Chris! Is this the result of your mega collection callaway article's? :upthumbs

Groeten Peter.

The second set of pics is an early Callaway Twin Turbo car and as you mentioned Peter, the "connection" between the rams horn & TB is not very clear - the transition is actually an oval hose type of fitting over the rams horn to the lip of the stock TB
Keep in mind, the TPI system was barely a year old when Callaway Cars begun the work on the project after GM's dozen, or so cars were not making the mark.

400hp was the initial goal - the *BIG* Manifold certainly got the cars there (in 1988) with it fitted :cool

So far, I have gone through about 115 publications & articles this week - it looks to be just the tip of the iceburg :eek

Good stuff Chris! I'm betting that car must be an 1988 because I've never seen a picture of any cars with that spoiler after the Areobody came out. Sure hope to get to Carlisle next year! Busy on getting extra garage up for now. :w Ike

Ike, I have seen that spoiler on one 1987, a handfull of 88's and one 1989 - a rare tail indeed :m

A November 1988 article would probably have been done in the early summer of 1988. 1989 MY cars probably would have started to roll out around late August or September of that year. So if it were a new car, it seems like maybe it could go either way but would probably be an '88? Does the article mention if it's a 7 or 6 speed?

Also, is this where the oft quoted 193mph top speed came from?

I think I know what car this is....

OK, I have done a little research on this bad-boy and I think I know which Callaway it is and where it is located. As usual, this is my best guess and don’t take it as gospel.

The car in the Nov 88 C/D was in Germany for the test. I don’t have the article, but the track is most likely Hockenhiem. Looks like the back 40 of the track. The track is no more than 45min from Callaway Comp and they did a lot of testing and photo shoots there. The only black B2K that I know of in Germany is a very special one. It was used as the full sized “buck” for the LM body parts and multiple other racing/special developments. It has a special oil cooler to assist in keeping the temp low for prolonged high-speed autobahn trips, along with other performance items.

The car is still in Germany and is owned by a dentist and has been for years. It has 15,000 miles on it. The car is 1988 B2K#95, Black on black. The Dymags are gone and it sports some BBS style wheels. Here is a pic of #95 at the Comp shop in Germany in late 1997 as it was being modified and serviced. It would only stand to reason that this is the car as it was the teat mule for many racing developments at that time. I have inquired about purchasing the car, but he is saving it for his young son…lucky kid.

No more pictures sorry..

I do know where the car is and might be able to arrange for some pics and some history...good idea....keep ya posted..
