Rattle Help!!!!!!!!!!

(1996 LT-1)

My outside heated passenger mirror seems to be vibrating, can it be fixed without taking the door apart?? lt seem to be the actual mirror that is loose.

Also under the passenger air bag is a air cond vent and the left side seems to be loose, the end closest to the center of the car.
Can l safely go under and feel around?

My exhaust system seems to be making noise, l'm assuming it is the hangers, being that l just turned 45,000miles, while l go ovewr bumps.

Please don't tell me that's the way they are supposed sound.

Not to change the topic, but l was in a late model Porsche 911SC and what l really noticed is that it was quiet, real quiet.

The pass/side vent can be removed by prying up the small louvered center section from the bottom. There shud be 2 no. 10 screws holding the vent to the dash Remove them & the vent shud come free. I am assuming it's the same as 95..
The pass/mirror may be accessible by adjusting it to the down position & looking for a couple of phillips head screws that may be loose. Just doing the latter from a post I saw on a different forum a while back.

As far as the Porsche goes....for that price it shud be.

Mirror - sounds like the adjuster is loose in the mirror housing. Try moving the mirror all the way in different directions to gain access to the screws as already mentioned and tighten them.

While you're looking behind the mirror, make sure the mirror is fully connected to the adjuster - there is an "X" shaped or U-joint looking connection between. Make sure all 4 ends are fully seated - 2 in the mirror and 2 in the adjuster.

Every time my exhaust bangs on one of the 13 speed bumps between home and the hi-way it starts rattling so bad it sounds like a broken motor mount. The culprit is always the little pipe that feeds the side of the main cat.

You are right, German cars are quiet.

My BMW850CSI was so quiet that 2 or 3 days a week you could not hear the engine running. A week or two in the BMW shop would usually bring a little noise back into the engine compartment.

A few times it was so quiet that you could not hear the pwr door locks, window motors or radio. On these days BMW would send a smal army of uniformed Techs over to experience this high degree of German quietness.

I will say one good thing about BMW Europe, on these very quiet days they would lend me a well used 524TD that was not quiet at all. As a matter of fact the only thing that you could hear above the noise of that worn-out diesel was me yelling at the regional service director.

Buy the repair kit from Mid America or whomever.....that'll fix your problem......very simple....fix...
