Today, when I was driving- this happened twice today- the fuel gauge suddenly dropped to empty from 3/4 and (later today) 5/8 of a tank. Now, it stayed that way until I shutthe car off. Then it, when I re-started the car- it was fine.

Any clue? Sending unit? What gives? This has NEVER happened before.

I remember about 9 months ago, the car went into reduced power mode... then it didn't do it again. Twice in a row. Then it didn't do it again.

Fuel sensor might need to be replaced.

Same thing happen on my 98. Just one of the little bugs in early production C5s.

This continues to be a bug with the C5. Happened on my 03 last year. Fuel sender unit in one tank went stupid for a bit. Since it has two tanks and senders, if one is off, the computer dumps the whole signal and send empty to the tank gauge.

There has been some success with a good fuel system cleaner. I recommend BG 44K and Red Line.

If that doesn't help, then you'll be visiting the dealer for a replacement.

well known problem - there's a TSB

Mine does it from time to time on trips, I always set trip a at each fill-up

Owning one

You got to love it to own it. I'm waiting, as someone said "for the deal of the century".
