Think I am hearing a rear bearing noise on the right side. Wondering how much of a job it is to replace them ? And how costly it would be ? Thinking about just putting it away for the winter and then worry about it next spring. Forgot to mention, not that it probably really matters, but the car is a 1981.

Rear spindle bearings aren't a do-it-yourself job unless you've done them before and have all the special tools and measuring devices that are necessary to do it right.

Pull the trailing arms and send them out.

Make sure you get the shim packs back in there correctly and get it aligned when your done............

Well, you can be sure that I have never done them before. LOL

Their is a good Vette shop about 50 miles South of us, and I may just take the car to them to do it. Usually I plan a yearly budget for this car. Any ideas on what this project would cost ?

And thanks for your help guys, much appreciated. :)

if you mean Marcell's call him 1st he was heading himself into retirement!!
I can probably get you a few other names in the area if you wish!!!!

I suggest you do some homework on this before you commit. I can tell you first hand there are a lot of hacks out there. This is another part I've had to correct from previous rebuilders. There are a lot of corners being cut so learn and ask questions. Look up my thread on how involved this is and it will help you out. Now I'm not saying all rebuilders are bad, Bairs is very good for one.
Good luck if you can't find my thread PM me for the link.

Thank you for all your help and advise. Have decided not to do anything with the car this year. As a matter of fact, I just stored it for the winter. " Out of sight, out of mind " !

Will be taking care of any problems with it next spring.

Once again, thank you for your help and I am sure that I will be asking for it again, next year.

good idea, gives you time to think over what you're going to do. I would read my thread though if you haven't. I think it will help you.:thumb

Thanks Gary,

I will read your thread. Am also wondering what is the time span to do this job ?

For the first timer it will take longer. For the guys doing them without any machine work or detailing a few hours, me-it takes me the longest most likely but I blast,etch,POR15, top coat the parts, then machine fit everything including grinding the shims to size.
