I can't seem to wrap my head around the fact that the makers of Corvette have paid so much attention to detail, yet have different Calipers on the front and back of the LS1.
I know the Z06 have matching calipers, anyone have an idea why this is so ? Perhaps you could enlighten me as to whether the calipers on the front would work on the rear ? Tnx, Sam

Z06 do not have matching calipers … they're just red is all. It's normal for OEM brakes to be front-biased. It is safer for less experienced drivers that way.

Looks like I didn't make myself clear. For the most part I was referring to the cosmetic aspect of the calipers. Those on the Z06 seem to match cosmetically while those on an LS1 do not.
Greater braking power on the front makes sense.

IMO-The calipers on the LS1 would look better if the were cosmetically the same. I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to why GM, Corvette if you prefer, didn't make them match as much as possible or did they ?

While I am at it, anyone know of a correction to make the rear look as the front look ?

I guess I'm not following you. The calipers on the ZO6 are just like the calipers on the rest of the C5's only they're red. You can paint yours red, I did mine.

Actually, you can paint them red, yellow, blue or other color.

Eastwood Co. sells really good brake caliper painting kits. While the calipers on my 04 Z06 are already red, back in 05, I used an Eastwood kit to paint the calipers on my 01 Camaro and that paint has been surprisingly durable. If I wash the brake calipers, they look almost as good as they did with the paint was new.

my 2004 LS1 has different calipers on the rear than on the front. The ones on the front have "Corvette" written on them in white. The ones on the rear are different, no lettering, as a matter of fact no place for lettering.

I kinda wish there was no writing on the fronts

Vettex2.............LOL

jrose7004...........I didn't know, I swear I saw a Vette with identical calipers, both having Corvette on them. Since it was not a Z06 they had to be after market calipers then, didn't they.

Lets not go to war, however my question remains anyone have any insight as to why they dont match at least on the outside if not internally. I for one believe it would be asthetically more appealing.

They don't match because they are different sizes, which is the case for every performance brake set up I have ever seen. Front Calipers are larger and stronger because they encounter forces that far exceed they rears. Does it also bother you that the front wheels and tires do not match the rears? They are 17 and 18inches in diameter, respectively.

Relax Pac-man, I just thought the Z06 with calipers that appear to match look better than those on my lowly Coupe. Thanks for your interest.
