Rear end leaking AGAIN

This is the fourth visit third repair to the differential. Hopefully they finally get it right. First time just tightened. Second time a new seal. Today I haven't any idea what they are going to do.

When you find out the fix? How about posting what they (claim) the problem was. Inquiring minds want to know I am sure.

BLUEDUCE, have you seen the latest photo of my MY Z06? I also added a few additional red items in the interior.

Hope they get yours repaired correctly, quickly. Is this being done under warranty? :w

This comes under the 12 months/12,000 mile warranty on repairs. I really think they need to replace the whole differential. Will let everyone know what they did.

I haven't seen what you added to your car. What are the adds?

Here are a couple of pictures, red covers for door pulls, red bezels (around handles) and red dash grab bar cover.

The other will be obvious,

I have to ask though, isn't yours a 2003 Z06 (12 months or 12,000 miles) or is this what the dealer gave you who you bought it from? Do you have the extended warranty?

Anyway, let me know the fix.

Differential Update

Ok got her back last night. This repair was a left rear cover and sealant. I'm really not happy with this continuing problem. Talked to our salesman who we just bought an HHR (great little car) from and voiced my concern. He is also their "Corvette guy". He was going to get some more information from the tech that has worked on our Vette. I am hoping Paul reads this and maybe can shed some light on this on going problem.

Pseudomind, like your interior adds. The exterior is neat. Are those decals or did you have someone paint that on? Very interesting. Don't know if I would have the courage to do it.

Thanks, I also would like to hear what C4C5specialist may have to say about your leakage.

** One note here** I had to pay a bit more for mine (two sets needed) in order to get the red

The CE stripes are actually vinyl which goes on like a decal would, In fact it looks like a decal installed, supposedly they will do nothing to the paint (no damage at all) and can be easily removed. How they are removed I have no idea ( I believe one just uses a blow dryer for a moment and they come up?). The only issue is that one cannot use a paste type wax (chalky) type or any petroleum based wax. Turtle Wax Ice Polish and Turtle Wax Detailer works just fine with the stripes and the rest of the car.

I had both my rear seals replaced while still under the three-yr/36Kmi warranty. The dealer told me that it is a common item.

Looking at all the Avatars -- it appears this just happens to YELLOW vettes!!:L Hope it is finally fixed.

Left side differential leak

I have a 2003 Z06 with 8,000 miles and also have a LS differential leak. I questioned the fact why would a car with only 6,000 miles need new seals? The explanation given to me was that when the car sets over the winter and is not driven much in the summer that the top part of the seals tend to dry out and crack - thus the leak. Sounds logical but is this a legit excuse/reason?

HI there,
Fact is, the revised service procedure involves anerobic sealer and a new oring seal on the side cover.
Now, torqued and installed correctly, it will NOT releak.
Mistakes can happen, I have had a few come back because I didnt clean flange surfaces, or apply enough sealant..
As long as the service procedure is followed, you will be fine.
Allthebest, :bang

It seems like most of the leaks I have seen are on the driver's side. Is there something in particular that makes the left side more likely to have a problem?
Also, how may of the leaks are at the case o-ring, and how many, if any, are at the seal where the half shaft goes into the side of the case? There was some speculation that the left side developed leaks because of a faulty vent, but I guess that has not turned out to be the cause.

The left side, drivers side, differential leak was optional initially but became standard equipment on all the Z06's I've come across. :eyerole This is another area where Chevrolet dropped the ball and apparently no permanent / reliable solution was ever implemented. :bash
