Folks,

Another basic question here... My RPO codes read "GM3" which is rear axle 3.45 ratio. What is the ration between and what makes that happen???

I also read different rear axle / end ratios like 3.03, 3.75, etc. What does different ratios do for the car?

The gear ratio value is the number of turns of the driveshaft compared to a single turn of the rear wheel. Another way of representing it is 3.45:1 With the 3.45 gears as an example, if you spin a rear wheel one complete turn, the driveshaft will spin 3.45 times.
The higher the gear ratio number, the slower the car will go at a constant RPM in the same transmission gear.

Also, the higher the number, the "lower" the gear. So, a car with 3.45 gears will go slower at the same engine RPM compared to a car with 2.73 but a car with a lower rear end gear (higher number) will accellerate much faster.

Tibet, it sounds like you really owe it to yourself to check out some books from your local library. You sound like an intelligent person who wouldn't have a problem understanding the material, and the answers would come much sooner than if you wait for a response from someone here.

Don't get me wrong because I truly don't know, but they do have lending libraries in Turkey, right? :confused

Ken, I admire your knowledge from what I read here. Sure there are libraries in Turkey with tons of publications. But internet is much faster and is much more fun. I get to know people here, learn in a way that I enjoy most (by discussions) and hey, I can do some of this from work... :) :) :)

From work! No, you don't really log onto the :CAC from work, do you? :L

Boss! Boss! Hey Boss, look here!!! :J
