Something abnormal happened today. Rear hatch opens with the remote and also with the yellow button located inside the console (compartment between the seats). But I could not open it with the button on the driver's door???

Any ideas why this may be happening???

Cheers,

Selim

Since the hatch is opening properly when you utilize the two methods you mentioned, I would have to suspect there is a problem with either the switch or with the wiring of the switch located in the door.

FX GS, your suggestion makes a lot of sense. I will check it one more time tomorrow. Is there an interlock for opening of hatch from the door switch? I.E. are there a set of conditions for the switch to work???

Uh, Selim - I think I am being dumb here. We both have the same car, but I never even KNEW there was a second interior button on the door - where is it?

Duh, Bob

Feel down the door jam along the leather. If you get down you can see its labled. At least on my '90 it is. Mine worked went out for a while and is working again ... electrical gremlins.

:w

Bob??? Are you kidding me??? Open the drivers door and you will see it on the rear side of the door dude (opposite the side where the hinges are).

BTW, how do you normally operate your hatch?

Cheers,

Selim

You know, that's kinda funny cuz it took me a month before I realized there was one on mine:L and I found that out when I took the time to read the owners manual, And...get this...I didn't realize that there were storage areas in the door rests/handles until the same time. Yeah...I know:duh Sheesh!!

I almost always use the fob...

Yeah, the switch was there!

Another good reason to read your owners manual or if you don't have one to purchase one. You might be suprised to found out little nuances about your car that you never knew existed.

I actually do have one, in the original zipper case. But the pages have all come loose, and its not easy just flipping the pages and reading it! I guess I will have to break down and order one...

Thanks, Bob

Folks, you can find owners manual of most C4 years and C5's on the internet. I do not have address for the web page here. I found it after having to buy mine...

Another surprise here, let's see if you noticed this one:

Did you know that there is a fuse on the left front (driver's side) sidemarker lamp assembly for the underhood lights??? This is also from the owner's manual (Page 6-73 of 1995 manual). I have yet to find it.

Another one:

There is supposed to be a "manual release cable" to open the hatch in case there is no battery power... And it is supposed to be near the security shade hadle, between the carpet and the shade... (Page 2-10 of 1995 manual). I have to find this one too.

Cheers all,

Selim

P.S. I will post internet address of the owner manuals in this thread tomorrow when I go to work.

Not only is there a switch in the consloe and one on the drivers door but there is also one on the Pass door too. Check to see if that one works too, I had a problem a while ago... my interior lights didn't come on when the door was opened and also the pass hatch release wouldn't work. I shot the switch with WD-40 and kept working it and before you knew it both the interior lights worked as well as the hatch release button.

Try that and let us know.

Well, double-duh. Yes, there ARE storage areas in the door handles. I opened mine up, and found a penny, some book matches, an empty cassette case, and a cassette by "Alice in Chains". I will have to send an email to the former owner and ask him if he wants them!

Thanks for the tip, Bob

No prob Bob!
Until I found them I always thought to myself "there's gotta be more than just the center console". The first time I opened the console up I was surprised how little room there was in there.:confused
See ya,
Jeff

Well you guys made me run out to the shop and check my doors because I never knew there were storage compartments in my door handles and I have even had both my door panels off before. I guess they put those in after 92 because I don't have them.

Here is the link for owner's manuals of GM cars... You can download them from this site by right clicking on the year / model and chosing "save target as". Remember these are pdf files so you need Acrobat reader. They are mostly 20 Mb or so file size so it may take a few minutes or so to download.

There is a hatch switch on the passanger door??? I know the car quite well, at least mine, and I have not seen that. Now I am urged to go back home and check that out; huh I have to wait for 6 hours before I can do that. Employment & work first - that is what buys fuel for the Vette :)

I have one on each door and one in the center console, mine is a 1992. Now I DO NOT have the door handle storage compartments so Chevy may have changed the door panels around over the years and the pass switch may have been deleted... but I have one on the pass door as well.

Hmmm, that's interesting. They must have eliminated the one in the passager door. I read the owners manual of mine and there is not one there, I am sure now.

Door handle storage compartments are pretty handy and useful. Although the center console is available it is just good enough for the cd's and other stuff. There is not much room inside the Corvette for storage really. But it is okay. This is a 2 seater sports car after all, not a fridge... :)

They had the passenger door hatch release on my '87 (even though it was a convertible, and you really couldn't put the top down from that side!) It was on my Dad's '91 (also a 'vert) and both of the other '87 coupes my family has had.

On my 1993, GM had cheaped out on that switch though, and was no longer there :( they left a plastic insert though, just as a final tease!

BTW, for some reason, my drivers door switch doesn't work sometimes either... Haven't figured it out yet, I am sure it is just a connection issue in the door. When I get into the door next time I will fix it... it doesn't work maybe 1% of the time:confused the rest of the time it is fine!
