Rear Hatch Operation

Well, stop and think about this. If I were the designer I would put as few switches as functionaly necessary.

Every one of these gizmos have an interlock. For example the yellow thingy inside the console should not operate when the manual brake is not on. The one(s) in the door(s) would operate when the car is in any gear - hmmm does that make any sense at all? The car is in gear and here we are opening the hatch??? Well I am assuming they are counting Neutral as a gear too. But practically speaking, one could open the door while driving and open the hatch (that's from the owner's manual). And the FOB key should open the hatch when the ignition is off. Now what happens if one of these interlocks fail and the hatch opens when the car is moving fast???

The few the better is my preference... Same as the bean counters, but just by coincidence this time :)

I have never tried any of mine while the car was in gear but they do work while the car is running or not. I like having the hatch switch on both doors so when I remove the top I can be on either side. I found those door switches by accident when I was cleaning the car. I was wiping armorall on the door panels when the hatch opened... I was like DAMN thats cool!

I don't understand about them on a vert though... verts dont have a hatch do they???:confused

Nope, verts do not have a hatch & they should not have hatch open switches. Unless the switch does something else we do not know.

Well remember designers are also people like us, they make mistakes too. How interesting the accountants did not catch that one! :)

Well you guys made me run out to the shop and check my doors because I never knew there were storage compartments in my door handles and I have even had both my door panels off before. I guess they put those in after 92 because I don't have them.
From what I understand, they put those in when they did away w/ the glove box in order to add the passenger side airbag.

I fixed my problem with the hatch opening switch on the driver's door... I noticed that the door lights were not coming on when I opened the driver's door. That told me something might be wrong with the "door ajar switch". Well it makes a lot of sense. I am sure the two switches are connected in series; i.e. the door has to be open for the hatch switch to function. Poor hatch opening switch did not operate since there was no signal for door open status.

Some WD-40 on the door ajar switch and a few strokes fixed the problem. Door lights started coming on and the hatch switch started operating. Now I can watch some TV with a peacefull mind :)

the hatch buttons on a vert are for the cover that is over the top, when the top is down... when the top is up, it 'locks' onto it.

Yeah, I imagined something like that would be the function of the switches for a vert.

Thanks,

Selim,

FYI The button in the center console does have an interlock per se. On an Auto car the shifter has a connector that is for the backup lights, Neutral saftey switch, and the interlock for the hatch release. It should be wired the same as the neutral saftey switch ... so the hatch only opens in park or neutral. I know you have a 6sp but there may be something similar for manual cars.

If there is a neutral switch on the 6 speed I would like to know about it and where it is wired. I would like to put a remote start and door lock system on mine. Anyone that can give me info on this I would appreciat it . :w

I think there is one near the bottom of the shifter-plate. I've heard you have to drop the exhaust to be able to reach up from the underneath. I did a search here trying to locate the NSS & BU switch for an auto since my FM didn't have the electrical section. Found a lot of posts 'bout sticks. Found the schematic from a buddies '89. Nice to have friends :D THX Magmotor!

Hope this helps
