About 6 months ago I noticed a whistling sound coming from my left rear wheel. Because I only drive it on weekends I didn't think much of it. However, after taking it out two weeks ago it seems that the whistling has gotten more persistance and a little louder. It's a 2003 with 15K miles on it. Could it be the bearings or something else? Thanks.

Could be about anything! Might just be tire noise, or something caught in the brake caliber area that's rubbing on the rotor. Yeah, that happened to me once. Plus.....tires get noisier as they get older (smoother tread).

Pull the wheel and inspect everthing. You can't tell sitting in the driver's seat. :)

Craig - did you ever get the problem diagnosed? My right real wheel is making a sound (like tire noise if the top was down - which is ISN'T) at speeds above about 30 mph. I'd like to think it is something minor but I don't have the nerve (read: cash) to drive it to the dealer, 14 miles at freeway speeds...:ohnoes

(I think) there is an audible "wear" indicator on each of the brake pads. It is a flat metal piece that is sized to rub the disc when the pad is somewhat worn. Could that be the issue?? are they still using this??
