Hi guys, I just purchased a 77. It is pretty solid but needs tons of work. I started with the brakes as it had none. front disks, roters, pads, hoses and a few lines. I started on the back but can't get the rotor off. Any suggestions, your help will be appreciated. Jack

Yes, I finally got them off. The e-brake springs were all broken and rusted. It was a real mess. I am going to replace the roters and back plate, e-brake hardware, etc., along with the calipers and hoses. Thanks for your reply. BTW, Do you think the rivits need to be used or are they something that is not necessary.

I removed my rivets some years ago to fix my e- brake , they dont seem to be needed...I havent had any problems since then. I might be wrong tho...

You will use every 4-letter word in your vocabulary fixing those e-brakes.:ugh

Be sure you put the rear rotors back on in the same position that they were to keep your runout in spec. Also recommend using stainless steel parking brake hardware when replacing including shoes and the crossover cable.

The rivets were just to hold the rotors on while being turned.

Rotor runout....

I had a problem with my old 81 Coupe, I chased a brake problem for a while before I realised that it was the runout.
I had a couple of mechanics here in Australia tell me that it wasn't the rotors causing my problem, I told the mechanic to shut up and skim the rotors on the car....problem solved.

If the runout is not within spec on these old calipers, the disc can make the caliper pump air back into the brake line, result is no brakes.

New rotors are not always true either, keep an eye on this and check the runout when you install.
