Is it normal for the rear leaf spring to touch the rim on a 1980 vette with no weight on the car? I have the body off and the metal spring is rubbing the rim.

Thanks
Mike

rims are the correct ones I'm 98% sure. The rear spring i'm not sure of. Is there anyway to tell?

well, I will try to remeber to measure it, I counted the leafs and there are 10 plates. I doesn't really mater because I'm putting a composite spring in. I just wanted to know if the rear control arms where no spaced right, if that even makes sense...

I know it sounds strange but the steel spring on my car touches the rim when one side of the car is jacked up. The the independant rear the wheels move in some when the car is jacked up and the spring moves down more with no weight on the wheels. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that there was nothing wrong with your spring with no weight on the suspension. I hope someone else can help you figure it out for sure but don't get too nervous yet. :)

springs touch mine too when jacked up. I see no problem there. Everything straightens out with proper clearance once off the jacks and rolled forward a little.

You guys with the touchy springs, are you using adjustable or the longer spring link bolts?
