Rear Tire wear?

Hi, just checking out my tires and I noticed the passenger rear tire is not wearing evenly. The outside of the tire has about a 1/4" of tread and the inside almost 1/2". The drivers side loks good. Tires are 2 summers old. What is the cause and how can I fix it?

Maybe you need to redo the alignment..? Something a couple of shims can fix, maybe.

Well clearly the tire is not meeting the road properly, so there must be some alignment problem. Seems as though the top of the wheel is leaning out further than it should, putting extra load on the outside of the tire.

Could be lots of causes but I think I'd start by looking at all the bushings around the rear, inluding on the trailing arm.

It sounds to me that you need some camber adjustment on the rear. You won't need shims tocorrect that. There are adjustments directly under the differential that will allow you to adjust camber. Take a look at Vette Brakes and I think they show you how to do a "close guess" at home with a straight length of board and a level. You could also take it to an alignment shop, but make sure they know how to do this with a Vette.

Another problem could be the bushings are shot on the rear struts that control the adjustment for camber. They can get so bad that it can break and your wheel will flop over. Don't mean to be scary, but I have seen it happen.
