none right now :(
My rear view mirror is loose, again... Every C4 I have owned has had troubles with the screw coming loose. Anyone have suggestions on how to keep it tight? I am considering trying loc-tite. anyone have experience with loc-tite into plastic? anyone have any other/better suggestions?

Loc-tite will literally melt the plastic. Maybe a teflon threading...

I have the same issue with my rear view mirror. I just keep re-tightening it. Its amazing how these c4's have almost the exact same quirks.

dang, that is what i was afraid of... i will try teflon tape, but i seriously doubt that is going to fix it... anyone else with any ideas?

Same with mine, I keep a screw driver in the glove compartment.

Exactly the same problem here, too. I keep a large-gripped Philips screwdriver in the center console so I can tighten up the mirror, which I have to do every few weeks. I'm thinking a split-washer might improve the friction on the screw...

I locktited mine a year ago--2,000 miles and is still tight.

Harley1@coiinc.com,
You must have the precision of a surgeon!

I had a bad experience with a few dabs of loctite on my cargo shade holders. The black GM hard plastic melted in no time, I was able to replace the part fortunately.

I can't believe everyone just keeps a screwdriver handy...

I just checked the loctite web site, and it says there that it shouldn't be used with plastic, so I guess that is out, as I don't want to screw anything up.

Anyone have a better ideas? (other than a keeping a screwdriver handy of course :L )

This may be a good ol boy attempt, but would painting the threads of the screw with something like Testors model paint work?

How about painting it with rubber cement or a tiny bit of gasket compound? And no, you probably don't need to worry about it being sensor safe :) .

There are so many different kinds of locktite. Some more caustic than others. I used red bottle # 609.

What about JB Weld - I used it successfully on my door interior trim after the pegs broke off - Why do they build expensive cars with cheap interiors

the rubber cement idea sounds pretty good... because i still want it removable if necessary. I am thinking a dab of black silicone might be best. I will buy some and try that.... thanks for the ideas everyone.... i needed something to spark my brain:)

Hey Guys, LocTite should work okay. I checked my 89. The tab that is glued to the windshield glass is metal (I think stainless steel). The part of the mirror assembly that slides over that tab with the the set screw is metal too (I think aluminum, painted black). The screw is metal. I would go for the LocTite as a solution.

I didn’t know that there was more than offering of locktite!

That’s another reason why I like the CAC so much, every visit is a learning experience.

Blue LocTite

I used the Blue (don't know the number) Loctite on just about every interior trim screw and the rearview mirror too. It's been about 6 months and nothings come loose yet. Before they came loose all the time.:)

It doesn't take much of the stuff to do the job. Get the little applicator tube instead of the big jar with the brush to apply it to small fasteners.

If you're worried about melting plastic just apply the stuff then let the solvent dry before you put it back in.

Watch out which formula you use though. Some are for PERMANENTLY fastening things and the only way to break the fastener loose is to heat it with a blow torch.

Get rid of the mirror...

I have a radical solution to the problem folks;get rid of the rear viewing mirrors altogether; Vette is so fast there is hardly anything in the rear to watch....

Yes, I don't see why you can't use loctite. My 89 has the Rear iew mirror mounted to the Windshield header frame and the screw coes into metal, not plastic. The Pastic windshield trim goes around the mirror and the mounting portion on the mirror is also metal.
