Rear view mirror... loose again

I have a radical solution to the problem folks;get rid of the rear viewing mirrors altogether; Vette is so fast there is hardly anything in the rear to watch....
Only problem is, according to your posts lately, you're watching everything thru your windshield by the side of the road!:cry

Did you locate your problem yet and get that thing running so you CAN use your rear view mirror?

My '88 has exactly the same problem. I can tighten it down and it lasts a few hundred miles then it is loose again.

Does anyone know the size of the screw? I have been trying to order one from GM, but have had no luck in the past 2 months, It's getting old not having the mirror up there :eyerole and unfortunately, I threw away the old stripped screw thinking it would be no problem getting a new one!

Hey, I am collecting all the information I can Jeff before going for the fix... In couple months latest the problem will be solved. Buut even now the car is so so so darn good duuuude.

The last 2 times I went to the dealer for oddball bolts, etc... for my 90 model the parts guy had to look up a 96 model year diagram in the parts software. The diagram for the 1990 either would not show the part or would not list a part number if it showed the part.

I've found that if you can get the dealer to order the correct part, they're usually a lot cheaper than Eckler's, MidAmerica, etc... for little stuff like exhaust fastener's, battery box stuff,.....

I've also had pretty good luck at Lowe's. The local one has a 6 or 7 tray cabinet with nothing but automotive fasteners. Their store associates are typically useless though.

Forget Loctite, Put a dab of RTV, adhesive/sealant, set the screw let it alone overnite.
You can still remove the screw at a later time, with no harm done.

I didn't notice my mirror ever coming loose until I read this thread, now I have to pick a solution to tighten the screw.
